Full Job Description

This Staff Accountant will support the Accounting Department at 68 Ventures with a primary focus on the financial management and reporting of Single Family Development projects. This role is designed for an early-career accounting professional who is eager to build a strong foundation in real estate and construction accounting. The position will assist with job cost accounting, general ledger activities, monthly close, and financial reporting while working closely with development, construction, and leadership teams to ensure accurate and timely financial information.

Essential Functions

1. Accounting & Job Cost Management (40%)

Assist with day-to-day accounting for Single Family Development entities and projects.
Maintain accurate job cost records, including posting invoices, allocations, and cost reclasses.
Review and code accounts payable invoices to appropriate projects, cost codes, and general ledger accounts.
Assist with tracking budgets versus actual costs for development and construction projects.
Support lot, land, and vertical construction cost accounting activities.

2. General Ledger & Monthly Close (25%)

Prepare and post journal entries under supervision.
Assist with monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes.
Reconcile balance sheet accounts, including cash, prepaid expenses, accruals, and job cost accounts.
Maintain supporting schedules for development-related accounts.

3. Financial Reporting & Analysis (15%)

Assist in the preparation of monthly financial statements and internal management reports.
Support variance analysis for project costs, budgets, and forecasts.
Help ensure accounting data is accurate and timely for use in BI dashboards and internal reporting tools.

4. Treasury & Cash Management Support (10%)

Assist with bank reconciliations and cash activity tracking.
Support development draw schedules, lender reporting, and documentation as needed.
Help monitor cash flows related to development projects.

5. Other Duties & Special Projects (10%)

Assist with audits, tax preparation support, and requests from third-party accountants.
Participate in special projects related to process improvements, system enhancements, and reporting efficiencies.
Perform other accounting-related duties as assigned.

General Qualifications

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (required).

Experience

0–2 years of accounting experience preferred.
Internship or entry-level experience in construction, real estate, or development accounting is a plus.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Basic understanding of GAAP and general ledger accounting.
Strong attention to detail with a high level of accuracy.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and general Microsoft Office applications.
Ability to learn accounting software and job cost systems.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Ability to work effectively in a team environment and communicate clearly with internal stakeholders.
