The Journeyman Electronics Industrial Controls Mechanic will be responsible for the day-to-day maintenance and operations of all Industrial Controls systems throughout the OVAHCS, to include the Lake Baldwin campus, Lake Nona campus, Lakemont campus, off site Veteran Centers, and Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs).
Major duties include but are not limited to:
- Performs equipment service which includes logic circuits and electronic controls, calibration of pneumatic controls, rebuilding pneumatic and electronic controller valves, thermostats and transmitters of pneumatic controls.
- Services and maintains all Direct Digital Controls and associated building automation equipment.
- Monitors systems for alarms, pull trending data for reports, and creates work orders to correct as needed.
- Installs, modifies, overhauls, maintains, programs, troubleshoots, and repairs complex Direct Digital Controls and pneumatic controls systems equipment and complete operational system(s) consisting of numerous complex integral components.
- Troubleshoots, adjust, repairs, installs and performs preventative maintenance on pneumatic and direct digital control systems to include but not limited to NCMs, NECs, FPUs, DSCs, SNEs, CGMs, CVMs XPMs air monitoring systems, dampers, humidity controls, pressure devices, sensors, recorders, temperature devices and valves.
- Advises the equipment user and/or the supervisor on the technical problems of installation, repair and modification of non-medical electronic equipment.
- Analyzes recurring malfunctions and recommends corrective action or modification as required for approval by the Section Chief or higher authorized officials.
- Recommends, develops, and implements redesign, reconfiguration, or modification of operating procedures to reduce breakdowns, eliminate hazards, or enhance accuracy and reliability.
- Performs incoming and recurring electrical safety inspections of non-medical electronic and pneumatic equipment that are associated with facility HVAC/R systems.
- Lead primary efforts in development/adjustment of new forms or procedures for HVAC/R controls safety
- Ensures a variety of safety and environmental regulations are in compliance by reviewing requirements with safety and GEMS office personnel and M&O General Foreman.
- Inspects facilities, shops and equipment to ensure all meet CEOSH, Life Safety, Joint Commission and OSHA compliance regulations.
- Incumbent is expected to provide a high level of customer service in alignment with the mission of the Department of Veterans Affairs. This includes consistently meeting the needs of both internal and external customers,

Physical Requirements: The work performed by the incumbent requires significant physical effort and endurance. Industrial Control Mechanics at this grade level are frequently required to perform repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding, platforms, and other hard-to-reach locations. The work involves standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, and climbing for extended periods, often in tiring and uncomfortable positions. The incumbent must have the ability to remain on their feet for long durations, including while staging materials and performing overhead or elevated tasks. Industrial Control Mechanics frequently lift and carry tools, equipment, and parts weighing up to 9 kilograms (20 pounds), and occasionally up to 18 kilograms (40 pounds). In some instances, they may be required to lift or move moderately heavy objects weighing more than 18 kilograms (over 40 pounds), for which assistance will be requested to prevent injury. The incumbent must use appropriate body mechanics and request help when necessary to ensure personal and workplace safety.
Working Conditions: The work is performed in a variety of environments, both indoors and outdoors, and often under challenging or adverse conditions. Occasionally exposed to potential hazards, including falls, electrical shock, burns, and contact with rotary equipment such as motors. personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required to include a respirator/PAPR as to protect against potential air or bloodborne pathogens.
