Quality & Safety Manager

Department: Operations
Reports To: Operations Manager, Durant
Location: Durant, Iowa

This is a hands-on leadership role that plays a critical part in supporting our customers, employees, and long-term growth.

Position Summary

The Quality & Safety Manager provides leadership for the company's Quality Management System (QMS) and Safety Management System while driving continuous improvement throughout the organization.

This role oversees product quality, ISO compliance, workplace safety initiatives, supplier quality, calibration systems, audits, corrective actions, and employee development. Working closely with Operations, Production, Engineering, Maintenance, and Supply Chain, this position helps improve quality performance, reduce waste, strengthen workplace safety, and ensure exceptional customer satisfaction.

What You'll Do

Quality Management

Lead and maintain the ISO 9001 Quality Management System (QMS).
Ensure compliance with ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 standards.
Maintain quality procedures, work instructions, and documentation.
Lead management reviews and support external certification audits.
Develop and maintain inspection plans, control plans, PFMEAs, and PPAP documentation.
Maintain customer quality documentation and quality planning processes.

Product Quality

Oversee incoming, in-process, and final product inspections.
Ensure products meet customer specifications, engineering drawings, and quality standards.
Manage non-conforming material processes and corrective actions.
Analyze quality trends and implement process improvements.
Program and utilize precision inspection equipment.
Maintain calibration systems and inspection records.

Safety Leadership

Lead the company's Safety Management System.
Ensure OSHA compliance and required documentation.
Conduct safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments.
Investigate incidents and implement corrective actions.
Coordinate safety orientation and ongoing training.
Promote a proactive culture of workplace safety.

Continuous Improvement

Lead Root Cause Analysis using 8D, 5 Why, Fishbone, and Pareto Analysis.
Implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
Support Lean Manufacturing initiatives.
Reduce PFMEA and SFMEA risk levels.
Drive quality, safety, and process improvements.

Customer & Supplier Quality

Respond to customer quality concerns and corrective actions.
Manage supplier quality performance and supplier corrective actions.

Auditing & Compliance

Conduct internal quality and safety audits.
Support external customer, certification, and regulatory audits.
Verify corrective action effectiveness.

Leadership

Champion quality and safety throughout the organization.
Collaborate with Operations, Production, Engineering, Maintenance, and Supply Chain.
Coach employees in quality and safety best practices.
Foster accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.

What You Bring

Required Qualifications

Minimum three (3) years of experience in manufacturing quality.
Experience maintaining or leading an ISO 9001 Quality Management System.
Knowledge of OSHA regulations and workplace safety programs.
Experience with PFMEA, PPAP, Control Plans, capability studies, and quality planning tools.
Experience using precision inspection equipment and calibration systems.
Strong Microsoft Office skills.
Excellent communication and organizational skills.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Preferred Qualifications

ISO 9001 Lead Auditor certification.
Associate's or Technical degree in Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality, or a related field.
Lean Manufacturing and/or Six Sigma training.
