PURPOSE: The purpose of this standard procedure is to establish and define the basic function, reporting relationships, authority, requirements, responsibilities, duties, and measures of performance to successfully fulfill the position of a Quality Engineer Level I of the company.
BASIC FUNCTION
The function of the Quality Engineer is to perform a variety of engineering assignments with key stakeholders designed to facilitate the control and improvement of product quality.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP
The Quality Engineer derives authority from, and reports directly to, the Quality Manager.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education
- Required: High School/GED diploma or vocational school equivalent
- Required: Graduate of an engineering program OR related 4-year degree
- Preferred: Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certified.
Experience
- Required: minimum 2 years of practical and related experience, preferably in a high-precision CNC/Assembly environment.
- Extensive experience in an ISO 9001 certified facility
- Experience leading multi-discipline teams in problem solving projects utilizing the latest RCA tools and developing effective corrective actions.
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
- Effective communication and listening skills with internal team members and external suppliers, and subcontractors.
- Ability to write technical reports and business correspondence.
- Must possess exceptional analytical ability and organizational skills.
- Must possess skills in advanced mathematics and statistics.
- Must be computer literate.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics.
- Understand principles of GD&T
- Knowledge of Process Capability (Cpk / Cp)
- Apply Statistical Process Control (SPC) to receive inspections (external suppliers) and internal (suppliers) manufacturing operations
- Familiarity with application and programming of Coordinate Digital Measuring Equipment (DME) including scanners, CMM, equators, vision systems, etc., and standard measuring equipment
- Understanding of production techniques and processes of a precision machine shop
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Applies a strong knowledge of quality systems and developing and or improving the systems and products to ensure that the business attains its annual goals and meets internal, customer, and ISO 9001 requirements.
- Work in conjunction with design and process engineering, manufacturing, sales, customer service, and purchasing personnel to resolve problems related to customer complaints, product design, specifications, materials, tooling, and production operations affecting quality.
- Develop and maintain quality control plans to incorporate statistical control, analyses, and reporting of results and trends.
- Maintain and improve the quality program to ensure conformity of purchased materials and components.
- Work with the engineering team to establish quality procedures and guidelines for all new products.
- Review current products and establish quality assurance procedures and related documents.
- Establish and maintain all inspection criteria and documentation. (Inspection reports and Inspection procedures).
- Implement QA procedures during pre-production and production startup.
- Work closely with production supervisors to maintain and communicate quality requirements.
- Prepare necessary reports and maintain all pertinent records.
- Perform internal audits and audit reports.

Specific vision requirements for this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
During the performance of his/her work duties, the incumbent will be required to occasionally lift up to 35 pounds and will frequently lift up to 25 pounds such as moving parts from material storage and moving parts in and out of work area.

The employee works in a manufacturing environment and is occasionally exposed to wet, humid conditions and toxic or caustic chemicals. He/she is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and works near moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is loud.
Pay: $80,000.00 - $120,000.00 per year
