Full Job Description

Responsible for the delivery, collection, sorting, and processing of mail generated by Municipal departments, divisions, and agencies. Performs daily mail delivery and collection routes and assists with postal processing and related mail services.

Provides printing and production services to support the printing, copying, finishing, and document reproduction needs of the City of Dayton. Operates a variety of digital production printing, copying, binding, laminating, cutting, folding, and other print-finishing equipment. Assists City departments with preparing print jobs, producing finished materials, and ensuring printing projects meet requested specifications, quality standards, and deadlines.

Work Performed

Operates City vehicle in making mail delivery and collection runs to various Municipal departments, divisions, agencies, and other designated locations throughout the City.
Sorts USPS and interdepartmental mail for distribution according to department, division, agency, or designated recipient.
Scans and processes outgoing mail and operates mail postage equipment in accordance with applicable postal requirements.
Delivers outgoing mail to the U.S. Post Office and picks up mail tubs containing incoming City mail.
Picks up, processes, tracks, and delivers certified and other accountable mail as required.
Receives and processes printing, copying, and document reproduction requests from City departments and agencies.
Reviews print requests and electronic files to determine appropriate paper size, stock, color, quantity, finishing requirements, and production method.
Prepares digital files for production printing and makes basic adjustments as necessary to ensure proper formatting and print quality.
Operates digital high-volume production printers/copiers to produce reports, forms, manuals, booklets, flyers, brochures, presentation materials, correspondence, and other City documents.
Performs black-and-white and color printing, copying, scanning, collating, duplexing, resizing, and other document-production functions.
Operates print shop finishing and bindery equipment, including folding machines, staplers, paper drills, numbering machines, 36-inch automatic paper cutters, comb and coil binding machines, and roll laminating machines.
Cuts, folds, staples, drills, binds, laminates, assembles, and packages printed materials according to job specifications.
Performs quality-control checks of completed printing projects to ensure accuracy, proper page sequence, print quality, finishing, quantity, and compliance with requested specifications.
Troubleshoots routine printing, copying, and bindery equipment issues and performs basic operator maintenance, including replenishing paper, toner, and other supplies.
Maintains an organized print production area and assists with monitoring paper, toner, binding materials, and other printing and mailroom supplies.
Prioritizes print requests and coordinates production activities to meet departmental deadlines and customer requirements.
Provides customer service to City departments regarding printing, copying, mail, and document-production requests.
Maintains appropriate confidentiality and care when handling City documents, correspondence, personnel information, and other sensitive materials.
Performs other related mailroom, printing, copying, and production duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Abilities and Skills

Working knowledge of street patterns and related geographical characteristics of the City of Dayton.
Ability to learn and efficiently perform Municipal mail delivery and collection routes.
Knowledge of basic postal procedures, requirements, rates, and mail-processing practices.
Knowledge of print shop operations, including digital production printing, copying, scanning, finishing, and bindery processes.
Ability to operate high-volume digital printers/copiers and related print-production equipment.
Ability to operate or learn to operate folding, cutting, drilling, stapling, binding, laminating, and numbering equipment safely and efficiently.
Ability to review print requests and follow specifications regarding quantity, paper size, paper stock, color, finishing, binding, and delivery requirements.
Ability to perform basic print-production quality control and identify printing, formatting, finishing, or assembly errors.
Experience with Microsoft Office applications and Adobe Creative Suite/Adobe Acrobat for viewing, preparing, modifying, and processing documents for printing.
Basic computer skills and the ability to work with electronic files, network folders, email attachments, PDFs, and digital print-production systems.
Ability to organize and prioritize multiple mail and printing assignments and meet established deadlines.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City employees, postal-service employees, vendors, and other customers.
Ability to communicate effectively and provide professional customer service.
Ability to write legibly and maintain basic records.
Ability to make basic arithmetic computations, including calculations involving quantities, paper counts, and print-production requirements.
Ability to follow equipment safety procedures and established City policies.

Minimum Education and Experience

High school graduation or G.E.D.
Previous experience in a print shop, copy center, mailroom, digital production printing environment, or similar operation is preferred.
Experience operating high-volume printers/copiers and print-finishing or bindery equipment is preferred.
MUST successfully pass required background investigation.
MUST possess a valid Ohio Driver's License with a good driving record and maintain a valid license and acceptable driving record throughout employment with the City of Dayton.
MUST have sufficient physical strength and ability to routinely lift, carry, move, and handle mail tubs, boxes of paper, printing supplies, and other materials weighing approximately seventy (70) pounds.
MUST be able to stand, walk, bend, reach, and perform repetitive tasks associated with mail processing and print-production operations.
MUST be able to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.

Pay: $19.59 per hour
