Overview
Habitat for Humanity of Greater Dayton changes lives by building and preserving affordable homes and selling them with an affordable mortgage to low-moderate income buyers in Clark, Greene, and Montgomery Counties. Since 1983, we have helped over 400 families achieve the dream of home ownership.
As a Construction Site Leader, you will work alongside and lead dedicated volunteers and subcontractors to successfully complete construction tasks from foundation through final occupancy. You will ensure that every volunteer has an exceptional Habitat experience by leading, teaching, and encouraging them in daily construction activities.
You will teach the home buyer about home maintenance during construction and enable them to meet their “sweat equity” requirements for purchase.
Position Responsibility
Responsible for day-to-day on-site construction activities to achieve successful completion of new homes and renovations using daily volunteers and subcontractors to execute each construction task. Reports to the Director of Construction in accordance with the policies and procedures established by this affiliate.
Position Duties Includes the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Site Preparation o Coordinates and oversees site excavation, footer preparation in accordance to approved plans, footer inspection and pour. o Ensures construction sites are properly prepared for construction to include operating temporary power pole prior to deck work, port-a-let, tool storage pod and dumpster (as required). o Ensures foundation is properly waterproofed, backfilled and rough grade accomplished prior to major framing activity.
- Construction o Oversees on-site construction activity to ensure compliance with all applicable building codes and regulations as well as approved plans and construction procedures in accordance with affiliate construction policies. o Develops written weekly work plans for construction assistants and house leaders. o Oversees the day-to-day construction activity to adhere to developed construction schedules and budgets. o On-site verification of all material deliveries to ensure proper sizing and quantity of all ordered material.

o Ensures that material on site is stored neatly and protected from the weather. o Ensures scheduling and coordination with approved subcontractors and vendors and approves such work to the Director of Construction prior to vendor payment. o Review and approve critical tasks during construction and before concealment. o Ensures necessary inspections are scheduled and monitored for compliance. Assures site access for inspectors. Any inspection denial will be reported to the Director of Construction. o Conducts final walk through with partner family to document any uncompleted punch list items prior to closing. Tracks completion of remaining items to ensure all open punch list items are accomplished within 45 days of closing.
- Tool Management o Ensures necessary tools are inventoried and positioned on site in time for each construction phase. o Monitors tool inventory procedures to ensure proper accounting and tracking of all power tools. o Recommends to the Director of Construction the acquisition and replacement of new tools and equipment. o Responsible for proper safeguarding and security of construction vehicles such as bobcat and trailer, dump truck, and HFHGD-owned construction vehicles (vans and trucks).
- Safety/Security o Conducts and documents daily safety meetings and ensures compliance. o Ensures job sites are operated and maintained with appropriate safety procedures to include a first-aid kit on site at all times. o Ensures any injuries are appropriately reported to the Director of
Construction and properly documented in a HFHGD Incident Report. o Ensures sites are properly secured at the end of each day’s construction activity.
- Training o Assists the Director of Construction to recruit, train and employ house leaders, team leaders and other volunteers. o Provides on-site training of volunteers as needed.
- Leadership o Attends meetings as requested. o Presents at all times a positive, unified image of HFHGD to volunteers and general public. o Evaluates current construction procedures and recommends improvements to the Director of Construction

Hours of Duty
Tuesday through Saturday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Other times as directed by the
Executive Director or Director of Construction.
General Qualifications
- Good management skills and the ability to work with and supervise a variety of people (including volunteers) with differing levels of motivation and experience.
- 5 years’ experience in construction, renovation and repairs.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and prints.
- Ability to operate mechanical equipment (Backhoe and/or Bobcat).
- Ability to accurately plan and manage multiple tasks.
- Commitment to Habitat for Humanity of Greater Dayton’s mission.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Ability to interpret a variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
