We are seeking a qualified and motivated CAD Technician / Designer / Drafter to join our growing team. This is a full-time, in-house position for an individual who takes pride in producing accurate, high-quality civil engineering plans and enjoys working collaboratively in a professional environment.
Position Overview
The CAD Technician / Designer / Drafter will be responsible for creating and revising detailed CAD drawings for civil engineering projects. The ideal candidate understands the civil design and construction process, can perform design and drafting tasks with minimal supervision, and has a strong understanding of the tools and capabilities available in today's Civil 3D.
Candidates should be comfortable using automated design applications to develop alignments and profiles, cross-sections, earthwork calculations, surface models, and other civil design elements. The successful candidate will understand how to review, check, and modify standard application inputs to ensure accurate design results and final produced plans.
Key Responsibilities
- Create, modify, and maintain detailed CAD drawings and construction documents for civil engineering projects.
- Develop alignments, profiles, cross-sections, surfaces, grading, earthwork calculations, and related design components.
- Utilize automated CAD applications effectively while understanding and verifying their underlying inputs and results.
- Perform plans production and understand the details and information required for various civil designs.
- Interpret engineering concepts, sketches, survey information, and project specifications and translate them into accurate CAD drawings.
- Apply current CAD technology and capabilities to improve efficiency and accuracy in everyday design tasks.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, surveyors, and field personnel to develop complete and accurate project deliverables.
- Review drawings for accuracy, completeness, consistency, and compliance with project requirements.
- Ensure drawings meet company quality standards, client requirements, applicable codes, and industry standards.
- Revise plans based on engineering direction, review comments, and client requirements.
- Maintain organized project files in accordance with company procedures and follow established CAD standards and workflows.
Qualifications & Skills
- Proficiency in Autodesk Civil 3D is required.
- Experience working across multiple CAD platforms is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated understanding of civil design and construction processes.
- Ability to create and modify alignments, profiles, surfaces, cross-sections, grading, and earthwork calculations.
- Strong understanding of automated CAD design applications and the ability to verify and modify standard inputs.
- Ability to recognize design requirements and produce complete, professional-quality plans with minimal instruction.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate work.
- Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with a project team.
- Familiarity with FDOT CAD standards and electronic delivery requirements is a plus.
- Experience with public infrastructure and civil site design is preferred.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Positive attitude and willingness to learn and adapt to evolving CAD technology.
