***Please note: This position will start on Thursday, July 9 and will have a starting schedule of: Fri, 3pm-5pm; Sat, 1pm-5pm; Mon, 3pm-6pm.
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
To perform routine work with library materials and events to ensure information and materials are easily accessible.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Work is performed under the general supervision of the Library Director or their designee; however, an employee in this position is expected to work independently without constant supervision.
TYPICAL EXAMPLES OF WORK:
An employee in this class may be called upon to do any or all of the following: (These examples do not include all of the tasks which the employee may be expected to perform.) Other duties may be assigned as necessary; employee holding this position is expected to maintain and update knowledge in job-related skills, procedures, and equipment.
- Provide respectful customer service upon request.
o Direct people to the appropriate staff member to handle a request and introduce the individual to the staff member along with a brief summary of the request.
o When procedures are not followed, inform full-time staff or supervisor.
- Perform routine work with library materials to ensure an accessible collection.
o Organize and place items in alphabetical or numerical order.
o Use a computer to scan items into the library database.
o Use a computer or tablet to create, review, and update reports, including, but not limited to:
§ Items requested by other libraries.
§ Items that have not recently been used.
§ Missing or lost materials.
o Retrieve materials from reports.
o Prepare, label, and repair materials.
- Work independently without constant supervision to improve efficiency.
o Request assistance from coworkers to ensure people receive accurate information.
o When coworkers are unable to supply needed information, request assistance from full-time employees or supervisors.
o Alert supervisors to safety issues promptly.
o Establish and maintain effective working relations, with coworkers, city employees, elected officials, and others. o Perform related work as required.DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Understanding of alphabetical order and numerical order including decimals.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee primarily works in a library setting. Onsite visits and/or meetings where varying conditions exist may be necessary
The employee must be able to:
- remain in a stationary position for multiple hours.
- move about indoors for multiple hours to place and retrieve materials, primarily at heights of seven feet and below.
The employee frequently:
- communicates with people verbally and professionally in a variety of situations.
- carries items weighing less than 25 pounds.
- uses software programs, including:
o library automation systems, for loaning and inventory of materials.
o word processing, like MS Word and Google Docs.
o spreadsheets, like MS Excel and Google Sheets.
- operates productivity machinery, such as:
o telephones.
o copy machines.
o printers.
The employee may occasionally:
- use stepstools to place or retrieve materials at heights of five to ten feet.
- assist with outdoor events in varying weather conditions.
- carry items weighing more than 25 pounds.
