Job Title: Deburr / Metal Finishing Technician
Department: Operations
Reports To: Production Supervisor

Position Summary

The Deburr / Metal Finishing Technician is responsible for removing burrs, sharp edges, and surface imperfections from machined aerospace components to ensure compliance with engineering drawings, customer specifications, and industry standards. This role is critical to product quality and downstream assembly operations.

Key Responsibilities

Remove burrs, sharp edges, and excess material from machined parts using hand tools, power tools, and specialized deburring equipment
Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and work instructions to ensure proper edge break requirements and surface finishes
Maintain tight tolerances and protect critical features during deburring operations
Perform visual and tactile inspections to verify part quality and conformance
Identify and report nonconforming conditions to Quality or supervision
Maintain part traceability and complete required documentation accurately
Follow all aerospace quality standards, including AS9100 requirements
Handle parts carefully to prevent damage (FOD prevention)
Maintain a clean and organized work area.
Support continuous improvement initiatives related to quality and efficiency

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED required
1–3 years of deburring, finishing, or machining experience preferred (aerospace experience strongly preferred)
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications
Familiarity with aerospace materials (aluminum, stainless steel, titanium, Inconel)
Experience using hand tools (files, sandpaper, carbide tools) and pneumatic tools
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality

Skills & Competencies

Excellent hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity
Ability to work with small, detailed components
Strong understanding of edge break requirements and surface finish standards
Good communication skills and ability to work in a team environment
Basic computer skills for data entry and job tracking

Physical Requirements

Ability to sit or stand for extended periods
Ability to use hands repetitively for fine detail work
Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally
Good vision (corrected if necessary) for close inspection work

Work Environment

Manufacturing shop environment with exposure to noise, metal particles, and cutting fluids
Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, gloves, and hearing protection

Preferred Qualifications (Optional)

Experience with aerospace standards and specifications
Previous experience in a precision machine shop
