Certified Medical Assistant Instructor

Job Summary
Promise Health Medical Institute is seeking an experienced, dependable, and student-focused Certified Medical Assistant Instructor to provide classroom, laboratory, and hybrid instruction for our Medical Assisting, Phlebotomy Technician, and EKG Technician programs.
The ideal candidate is a Certified Medical Assistant with strong clinical experience in medical assisting, phlebotomy, EKG procedures, medication administration, and general outpatient clinical care. This instructor will help students develop the knowledge, professionalism, and hands-on skills necessary to successfully complete their programs, qualify for national certification examinations, and enter the healthcare workforce.
This position requires in-person instruction for skills laboratories and selected classroom sessions, with some lessons delivered virtually or through PHMI’s online learning platform.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Teach Medical Assisting, Phlebotomy, and EKG course content according to PHMI’s approved curriculum.
- Provide engaging classroom, laboratory, and hybrid instruction.
- Demonstrate and supervise hands-on clinical skills.
- Teach students proper infection control, Standard Precautions, patient safety, and professional conduct.
- Provide instruction in phlebotomy procedures, including venipuncture, capillary puncture, specimen handling, order of draw, and laboratory safety.
- Teach EKG lead placement, patient preparation, artifact identification, basic rhythm recognition, and performance of accurate 12-lead EKGs.
- Teach Medical Assisting skills, including vital signs, patient intake, medication administration, injections, clinical documentation, assisting with examinations, and administrative procedures.
- Supervise students while they practice procedures on simulation equipment, classmates, volunteers, or approved patients.
- Ensure students complete required clinical competencies, live sticks, EKG tracings, skills checkoffs, assignments, and laboratory hours.
- Prepare students for national certification examinations, including NHA certification exams when applicable.
- Review course material, provide study guides, and conduct exam reviews.
- Grade assignments, quizzes, examinations, skills checkoffs, and laboratory activities.
- Maintain accurate attendance, grades, competency records, and student-progress documentation.
- Identify students who need additional assistance and provide appropriate remediation.
- Maintain a safe, organized, and professional classroom and laboratory environment.
- Monitor supplies and notify administration when laboratory materials or equipment are needed.
- Communicate regularly with PHMI administration regarding student attendance, behavior, performance, and academic concerns.
- Participate in faculty meetings, orientation, training, program reviews, and compliance activities.
- Follow PHMI policies, procedures, curriculum requirements, and applicable state and regulatory standards.
- Assist with student retention, career readiness, professionalism, and employment preparation.
- Complete other instructional duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Current Certified Medical Assistant credential from a nationally recognized certifying organization.
- Minimum of 6 months of recent clinical Medical Assistant experience preferred.
- Strong hands-on experience performing phlebotomy and EKG procedures.
- Current CPR/BLS certification.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Ability to teach and demonstrate clinical procedures safely and accurately.
- Strong verbal, written, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively with adult learners from diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to maintain professional boundaries and protect confidential student and patient information.
- Comfortable using Zoom, online learning systems, email, electronic documentation, and basic classroom technology.
- Must be dependable, punctual, patient, professional, and committed to student success.
- Must be available to teach in person and provide some virtual or hybrid instruction.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Medical Assisting, Allied Health, Health Science, Nursing, Education, or a related field.
- Certified Phlebotomy Technician credential.
- Certified EKG Technician credential.
- Prior teaching, precepting, training, or clinical supervision experience.
- Experience preparing students for NHA certification examinations.
- Experience working in primary care, urgent care, internal medicine, family practice, or another outpatient setting.
- Experience with medication administration and injections.
- Familiarity with learning-management systems and hybrid education.
Schedule
This is a part-time position with hours based on course schedules and enrollment. The instructor must be available for a combination of:
- In-person classroom instruction
- In-person laboratory and skills sessions
- Virtual or hybrid instruction
- Student remediation and exam-review sessions
- Occasional evening or weekend instruction, depending on program needs
