Full Job Description

Job Summary

PVS Perimeter is seeking a dedicated, dependable, and compassionate full-time Veterinary Technician to join our growing veterinary team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in animal care and handling, excellent communication skills, and the ability to provide high-quality clinical support in a fast-paced veterinary environment.

This position requires proficiency in common veterinary procedures, strong attention to detail, and a commitment to providing exceptional care to our patients and their owners.

Employment and Scheduling Requirements

This is a full-time position. Applicants must be able to commit to a consistent full-time schedule and must have availability to work a combination of weekday, evening, and Saturday shifts based on the needs of the hospital.

Our hours of operation are:

Monday through Friday: 9:30a.m.–8:00 p.m.
Saturday: 8:30 a.m.–3:00 p.m.
Sunday: Closed

Team members are scheduled for assigned shifts within these operating hours and are not expected to work every hour the hospital is open. Applicants seeking only part-time or temporary employment will not be considered for this position.

Responsibilities

Assist veterinarians during examinations, medical treatments, surgical procedures, dental procedures, and diagnostic testing.
Obtain and document accurate patient histories and vital signs.
Safely restrain dogs and cats for examinations, treatments, blood collection, catheter placement, radiographs, and other procedures.
Collect blood, urine, fecal, cytology, and other diagnostic samples.
Perform in-house laboratory testing, including blood work, urinalysis, fecal testing, and other diagnostic procedures.
Obtain diagnostic radiographs while following proper positioning and radiation-safety protocols.
Place and maintain intravenous catheters.
Administer medications, vaccines, fluids, and treatments as directed by the veterinarian.
Calculate and prepare medications accurately under veterinary supervision.
Prepare patients and the surgical suite for procedures using proper aseptic techniques.
Assist with anesthesia induction, patient monitoring, recovery, and postoperative care.
Assist with dental cleanings, dental radiographs, charting, and other dental procedures.
Monitor hospitalized and recovering patients and promptly communicate changes in patient status to the veterinarian.
Maintain complete, accurate, and timely medical records.
Clean, disinfect, sterilize, and properly maintain medical instruments, equipment, examination rooms, treatment areas, kennels, and surgical spaces.
Provide compassionate nursing care, including feeding, walking, grooming, cleaning, and monitoring hospitalized patients.
Educate pet owners regarding medications, discharge instructions, nutrition, preventive care, and general animal health.
Communicate professionally and compassionately with clients, veterinarians, coworkers, and other members of the hospital team.
Assist with inventory, stocking, medication preparation, and other hospital duties as assigned.
Help maintain an organized, clean, safe, and efficient work environment.

Required Qualifications

Previous veterinary technician, veterinary assistant, or equivalent clinical animal-care experience.
Strong knowledge of veterinary terminology, animal anatomy, physiology, and common medical procedures.
Experience with safe animal restraint and handling.
Experience collecting diagnostic samples and performing in-house laboratory testing.
Experience placing intravenous catheters and assisting with venipuncture.
Familiarity with surgical preparation, aseptic technique, anesthesia monitoring, and patient recovery.
Familiarity with veterinary dental terminology and procedures.
Ability to maintain accurate medical records and follow written and verbal instructions.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and physically demanding environment.
Strong communication, organizational, and time-management skills.
Ability to work cooperatively as part of a team.
Reliable attendance and punctuality.
Availability to work a full-time schedule that may include evenings and Saturdays.

Preferred Qualifications

Veterinary Technician certification, licensure, or formal veterinary technology education is preferred but not required.
Experience with veterinary practice-management software.
Experience assisting with surgery, dentistry, radiology, and anesthesia monitoring.
Previous kennel, grooming, or professional dog-handling experience.
Experience providing client education and reviewing discharge instructions.
Fear Free, CPR, or other veterinary certifications are a plus.
Equine-care experience is welcome but is not required for this small-animal position.

Physical Requirements

Candidates must be able to:

Safely lift, carry, and restrain animals of varying sizes.
Stand, walk, bend, kneel, and remain active for extended periods.
Assist with moving patients, equipment, food, and supplies.
Work around animal hair, dander, bodily fluids, cleaning products, medications, and other materials commonly found in a veterinary hospital.
Safely perform job duties while working with animals that may be fearful, painful, stressed, or reactive.
