Position Summary
Vecima is seeking a Technical Lead, Software Engineering to provide hands-on technical leadership for the Platform team supporting the MediaScale platform. This role combines software development, architecture, technical direction, and people leadership responsibilities.
The successful candidate will lead and develop a team of software engineers through coaching, mentoring, performance management, career development, and day-to-day leadership while remaining actively involved in architecture, design, development, troubleshooting, and technical decision-making.
We are looking for a technically strong leader who combines deep technical expertise with initiative, ownership, and a passion for helping teams succeed. Strong Linux expertise and hands-on Linux application development experience are essential.

Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership and Development
- Act as the technical lead for MediaScale platform development, including design, development, technical direction, and product ownership activities.
- Participate directly in Linux-based software development, troubleshooting, and support of applications in Linux server environments.
- Lead architecture and design discussions and help guide sound technical decisions.
- Support products with a large field install base by prioritizing bug fixes, reliability improvements, security needs, customer escalations, and new feature work.
- Move fluidly between big-picture technical direction, detailed design considerations, day-to-day execution, and release delivery.
- Help establish engineering standards, best practices, and technical roadmaps.
Team Leadership
- Lead, coach, develop, and inspire a team of software engineers through regular one-on-one meetings, career development planning, mentorship, performance management, and day-to-day leadership.
- Provide both technical and soft-skill mentorship to support employee growth and team effectiveness.
- Foster a culture of accountability, ownership, collaboration, continuous improvement, and technical excellence.
- Help create clear alignment around priorities, expectations, ownership, and delivery commitments.
- Identify and remove obstacles that impact team productivity and engagement.
- Support succession planning and help develop future technical leaders.
Delivery and Cross-Functional Execution
- Work effectively with Product Management, Architecture, Scrum Masters, and adjacent development teams to deliver features and releases.
- Establish timelines for long-term initiatives and short-term deliverables, including release schedules and sprint commitments.
- Use Agile practices to support planning, execution, visibility, and continuous improvement.
- Regularly review processes and identify opportunities to improve team efficiency, quality, and predictability.
- Balance customer needs, technical debt, platform evolution, and delivery commitments.
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS, Software Engineering, or an equivalent technical discipline.
Required Experience
- 10+ years of technology experience in software design and enterprise product development.
- 10+ years of software development experience, preferably with Go, Python, or similar programming languages.
- Strong Linux expertise and hands-on application development experience in Linux environments.
- Experience leading or managing software engineers, including coaching, mentorship, planning, performance-related responsibilities, and employee development.
- Experience with Agile software development practices, including leadership roles in a Scrum team.
- Proficiency with Jira boards for release, sprint, and backlog management activities.
Technical Skills and Competencies
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Technical depth sufficient to provide overall technical leadership and drive sound design decisions.
- Strong communication skills, particularly when coordinating complex projects with multiple stakeholders.
- Experience working with embedded Linux-based systems, including networking, configuration, management, and debugging.
Nice to Have
- Experience with internet and Linux security concepts and best practices.
- Experience with virtualization and cloud-native deployment technologies such as Ansible, Docker, and Kubernetes.
- Experience with monitoring solutions such as Prometheus and Grafana.
- Experience in video, streaming, networking, telecommunications, or related technology environments.
