Full Job Description

Overview (This is a UNION position)

Machinists operate a variety of machine tools to manufacture and repair mechanical assemblies. Daily responsibilities include performing milling operations such as drilling, tapping, boring and conventional milling, as well as lathe work using both horizontal and vertical mills and boring mills. While this is primarily a manual machining role, our shop is also equipped with a CNC machine, offering opportunities for cross-training and variety in your daily work.

Responsibilities

Set up and operate manual machining tools such as lathes, grinders, drills, and milling machines to produce precise metal parts according to specifications.
Interpret mechanical blueprints, technical drawings
Use precision measurement instruments including calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, and dial indicators to verify dimensions and ensure quality standards are met.
Perform machine setup procedures, including selecting tooling, adjusting feeds and speeds, and ensuring proper alignment for optimal operation.
Conduct quality inspections during and after machining processes using measurement tools to maintain tight tolerances.
Maintain a clean and safe work environment by following safety protocols and properly handling power tools and hand tools.
Collaborate with team members on assembly processes when necessary, ensuring parts fit correctly within larger assemblies.

Requirements

Proven experience in manual machining operations with a strong understanding of machining tools such as lathes, mills, grinders, and drills.
Knowledge of CNC programming basics (G-code/M-code) is a plus but not mandatory; familiarity with CNC machining is advantageous.
Ability to use precision measurement instruments including micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, and dial indicators for quality control.
Mechanical knowledge with the ability to interpret mechanical blueprints and perform machine setup accurately.
Basic math skills for measurements, calculations related to machining dimensions, and understanding tolerances.
Experience with tooling selection, hand tools, power tools, and machine maintenance routines.
Strong attention to detail combined with excellent problem-solving skills to troubleshoot machining issues efficiently.
Ability to work independently or as part of a team in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Pay: $23.00 - $30.00 per hour
