Full Job Description

Restaurant Host

Location: Merge Caribbean Cuisine
Job Type: Full-Time
Reports To: General Manager/Restaurant Supervisor

Job Summary:

The Restaurant Host must be warm, friendly, and organized. You will be the first point of contact for our guests. Merge requires excellent customer service skills, a professional demeanor, and the ability to create a welcoming dining experience.

Key Responsibilities:

Guest Relations & Seating

Greet guests warmly upon arrival and escort them to their tables.
Manage restaurant reservations and waitlists using booking software or a seating chart.
Provide accurate wait-time estimates and keep guests informed.
Accommodate special requests, including seating preferences and large party arrangements.

Customer Service & Communication

Answer phone calls and assist with reservations, inquiries, and takeout orders.
Maintain a friendly and professional demeanor at all times.
Communicate with servers and kitchen staff to ensure smooth service flow.
Assist in handling guest complaints or concerns and escalate issues to management if necessary.

Front Desk & Lobby Maintenance

Keep the entrance, waiting area, and host stand clean and organized.
Maintain menus, promotional materials, and daily specials for guest reference.
Monitor dining room capacity and ensure tables are turned efficiently.

Team Support

Assist with setting up and clearing tables when needed.
Help coordinate large reservations and private events with management.
Work closely with the front-of-house and kitchen teams to enhance the guest experience.

Qualifications & Skills:

Education: High school diploma or equivalent (preferred but not required).
Experience: Previous experience as a host, receptionist, or in customer service is a plus.
Skills:

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
Professional and polished appearance.
Ability to handle high-pressure situations and remain calm under stress.
Knowledge of reservation systems is a plus.

Work Environment & Schedule:

Fast-paced restaurant environment with standing and walking for extended periods.
Evening, weekend, and holiday shifts required.
