Position Summary
The Insulator is responsible for the safe and efficient installation, maintenance, and removal of various types of industrial insulation materials in accordance with company policies, project specifications, and site requirements. The Insulator works under the direction of a Lead Man or Supervisor and is expected to maintain a strong commitment to safety, quality, productivity, and proper use of tools and equipment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Follow all company, client, site-specific, and project safety rules, procedures, and specifications.
- Install various types of insulation materials, including fiberglass, foam rubber, calcium silicate, mineral wool, and urethane.
- Determine the appropriate insulation type, size, thickness, and placement under the direction of the Lead Man or Supervisor.
- Read and interpret blueprints, project specifications, and installation drawings.
- Assist with the installation of sheet metal and the fabrication of insulation materials and jacketing.
- Measure, cut, shape, and install sheet metal weatherproofing and jacketing.
- Use hand and power tools, including knives, saws, band saws, and pin-welder guns.
- Perform basic calculations involving material dimensions, measurements, and angles.
- Complete required documentation, reports, and records accurately.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a safe and orderly condition.
- Perform jobsite cleanup and other related duties as assigned.
- Wear all required personal protective equipment (PPE) and maintain compliance with company and site safety requirements.
- Report unsafe conditions, incidents, damaged equipment, and other concerns to the appropriate supervisor.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Required Tools
Insulators are responsible for providing and maintaining all tools necessary to perform their assigned job duties, including any specialized tools required by the specific jobsite or client.
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred.
- 2–4 years of documented industrial construction or maintenance experience preferred.
- Completion of a formal mechanical insulation apprenticeship or equivalent journey-level experience preferred.
- NCCER certification or other recognized journeyman-level certification is preferred.
Core Skills & Knowledge
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, project specifications, and installation drawings.
- Working knowledge of industrial insulation materials and their proper applications.
- Proficiency in the safe use of hand and power tools.
- Ability to accurately measure, cut, shape, and install insulation and sheet metal jacketing.
- Basic knowledge of shop mathematics, including measurements, dimensions, angles, and material calculations.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and work effectively under the direction of a Lead Man or Supervisor.
- Strong commitment to safety, quality, and jobsite requirements.
Safety & Certifications
- Must comply with all applicable OSHA safety requirements and company/site safety procedures.
- Must wear and properly use all required PPE.
- Must comply with client-specific plant safety rules and access requirements.
- EPA-accredited training may be required when handling or removing hazardous materials, including asbestos.
- Additional certifications or training may be required based on project or jobsite requirements.
Physical & Work Requirements
The Insulator must be able to perform physically demanding work in industrial construction and maintenance environments, including:
- Work safely in varying weather conditions and outdoor environments.
- Stand and walk for extended periods.
- Frequently bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and reach.
- Use arms and hands to reach, handle, manipulate, and operate tools and materials.
- Lift and carry materials weighing up to 50–100 pounds, as required by the job.
- Push and pull heavy materials and equipment.
- Climb and descend ladders, scaffolds, stairs, and other elevated work surfaces while carrying tools and equipment.
- Work safely at elevated heights.
- Work in confined or restricted industrial spaces.
- Maintain the physical stamina necessary to safely perform assigned duties throughout the workday.
Work Environment
This position may require working in industrial plants, construction sites, elevated work areas, confined spaces, and outdoor environments. Employees must be able to work safely around industrial equipment, construction activities, varying temperatures and weather conditions, and other jobsite hazards while consistently following all applicable safety requirements.

Pay: $27.00 - $32.00 per hour
