Schagrin Home Comfort Products is a 4th generation family-owned local business specializing in propane delivery and the installation and service of gas appliances including HVAC equipment, standby generators, gas logs and fireplaces, and other comfort and convenience products.
Objective
To be independently responsible for further developing and managing Schagrin’s occupational safety and health program. This Manager needs to be the subject matter expert for Schagrin Home Comfort Products in the areas of OSHA, DOT, and other state and federal agencies as they pertain to Schagrin’s operation. This role will also manage 3rd-party consultants in the areas of DOT (FMCSA) for the propane delivery side of the business. This role will cover multiple sites in and around Delaware.
Essential Functions
- Manage, develop, and maintain safety and DOT programs.
- Must be the subject matter expert (SME) for Schagrin Gas Company.
- Must be able to work independently.
- Must be able to travel to all locations.
- Must be able to respond to an emergency on a moment's notice.
- Must be on-site and in the field. This is not a remote position.
- Must be able to communicate effectively and professionally to all levels.
- Create goals, track goals, and communicate results to all levels of management.
- Ensure compliance regarding risk assessments, safety programs and policies, training, and permits.
- Needs to be the “go-to” person for any and all interactions with state and federal regulators (OSHA, DOT, DNREC, etc.).
- Maintain DOT files for commercial drivers, pipeline operators, and rail off-loading employees.
- Monitor vehicle telematics & camera reporting for infractions. Must be able to coach employees.
- Conduct periodic safety and compliance audits of company sites, equipment and personnel.
- Develop, implement and communicate plans to build a culture of safety with a goal toward reducing accidents, injuries, and near-misses through employee engagement and education.
- Maintain a relationship with emergency response planning organizations at the town, county, and state levels.
- Lead safety incident investigations and work with Operations on corrective actions.
- Periodically report on safety and training completion rates and incident/accident/near miss rates.
- Must be able to interface with Schagrin’s insurance broker/carriers and attend the annual risk control workshop that is provided by the captive company.
- Represents Schagrin Gas in a professional and courteous manner and always provides excellent customer service.
Schedule Requirements
- Available to work full-time between 7:00 AM - 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday.
- Assist with on-call schedule on a rotating basis for after-hours emergencies.
- Must be on-site and in the field. This is not a remote position.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must have minimum 3-5 years of experience as a safety coordinator or safety manager in general industry.
- Must have experience with hazardous materials and emergency response.
- Must have their GSP or ASP certification; working towards their CSP.
- Must have experience with hazmat transportation.
- Must be an excellent communicator and presenter.
- Must be able to assess risk and develop and implement layers of protection to help reduce risk.
- Must have excellent P/C skills and be willing to explore new technology.
- PC/office software experience and knowledge.
- Good driving record and driver’s license in good standing,
Preferred Qualifications
- 5-10 years of safety manager experience.
- CSP certification
- College degree in occupational safety.
- Railcar operation, hazardous material trucking, and occupational safety management experience.

Pay: $100,000.00 - $120,000.00 per year
