Major Corrective Task Force (MCTF) Leads represent the highest level within the technician progression and serve as expert field leaders in wind turbine large corrective operations. Under general direction and with minimal day-to-day supervision, MCTF Leads act as subject matter experts, safely executing major component exchanges, retrofits, and up-tower repair services across multiple turbine platforms.
MCTF Lead Technicians are responsible for managing and directing technicians, contractors, and crane suppliers in the day-to-day execution of complex projects. They ensure all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in alignment with company standards, customer expectations, and industry best practices. Leads possess advanced knowledge of turbine systems, including procedures, schematics, health and safety protocols, main component disassembly and assembly, drivetrain components, troubleshooting, rigging, crane signaling, LOTO, and both standard and specialized tooling.
This role requires a high level of technical, safety, and administrative expertise, along with the ability to lead teams in dynamic, high-risk environments. MCTF Leads are expected to provide instruction, mentorship, and coaching to field personnel, driving continuous improvement in performance, safety, and quality. Candidates must have a minimum of three (3) years of practical experience within their respective technology, meet established Expert Knowledge Requirements, and demonstrate a proven track record of performance. Advancement to this level requires demonstrated capability, consistent results, and formal recommendation from management. As required, MCTF Leads assist in the dismantling, erection, alignment, adjustment, and maintenance of machinery and equipment in accordance with installation manuals, work instructions, layout plans, blueprints, and technical drawings. They are assigned to multiple projects on a rotational basis and are expected to travel to remote client sites, often serving as the primary point of contact for on-site operations and project execution.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:
- Lead major component exchanges across multiple turbine platforms, managing teams ranging of 2-10+ members.
- Oversee crane and labor suppliers contracted by Zephyr, ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and procedural standards.
- Deliver technical guidance on wind turbine installation, operation, calibration, repair, and maintenance.
- Diagnose and resolve technical issues with turbines and associated tooling.
- Handle administrative tasks, including daily logs, time tracking, safety documentation, quality reports, procedure validations, technical reports, and job status updates.
- Own and contribute to Zephyr's safety metrics and performance goals.
- Coach, mentor, and train technicians; track and report on their technical skills, administrative performance, safety adherence, quality, attendance, initiative, reliability, judgment, and decision-making.
- Manage tooling care, usage, and inventory; assume full responsibility for company tools and assets, ensuring proper maintenance and security. This includes the security and care of trailers used on various projects where MCTF Lead takes full responsibility for the asset and contents.
- Maintain personal and project protective equipment (PPE); enforce team completion of required monthly inspections.
- Adhere to industry safety standards for wind turbine work and always ensure team compliance.
- Demonstrate strong expertise in field operations leadership, turbine technical proficiency, troubleshooting, and decision-making.
- Develop and adjust team schedules to optimize wind windows and maximize crane utilization.
- Own project schedule and budget ensuring adherence to execution plans, optimize wind windows and crane use, track burn rates, and make real-time cost decisions to deliver on time and on budget.
- Receive, inventory, store, and prepare turbine parts for shipment; organize and submit related documentation (e.g., packing slips, bills of landing, inventory lists) to administrative staff.
- Delegate tasks and assignments to team members as required.
- Traveling up to 100% of the time, including overnight stays and extended field assignments.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, such as engineering and operations, to support project success.
- Conduct post-job reviews and lessons learned to improve future operations.
- Ensure environmental compliance and proper waste disposal during turbine maintenance activities.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Ability to articulate solutions, not just report problems.
- Highly focused with good attention to detail.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Certified in troubleshooting in any platform.
- High aptitude in rigging and certified at minimum as NCCCO Rigger 1 or equivalent.
- Thorough knowledge in crane signaling (Hand & Radio)
- Computer/iPad/Phone knowledge for completing daily safety, quality, and progress reports.
EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION:
- At least 5 years of wind experience with a minimum of 2 year in a leadership position.
- At least 3 years of major component exchange or crane industry experience.
- Multi-OEM experience preferred
- College degree or technical school preferred.
- Proficient in MS Office 365 applications.
- Training preferred - GWO BST, GWO BTT, NFPA70E or equivalent, OSHA 10 or 30, confined space, Class 7 forklift, Rigger 1, Hand & Radio signal, hazardous communication, GE LOTO, OEM Competency Cert (Level 1-8, Maintenance, Troubleshooting, major components, etc.), LOTO
Pay: $37.00 - $40.00 per hour
