Turn pricing and promotional opportunities into customer value, stronger price perception, and measurable gross-profit growth.

Position Summary

We are seeking a commercially minded grocery retail leader to support our Promotions and Marketing Manager with pricing, promotional planning, digital offers, and strategic buying across a complex multi-wholesaler, multi-warehouse environment. This role works closely with wholesalers, ad groups, brokers, direct-store-delivery partners, and perishable suppliers to build compelling promotions while protecting blended gross margin and driving gross-profit dollars.

The ideal candidate understands that strong value and strong profitability can work together. They can analyze costs and retails, identify pricing opportunities, negotiate and source effectively, and translate the results into clear weekly ads, temporary price reductions, and loyalty offers.

Key ResponsibilitiesAdvertising & Promotional Planning

· Support the development and execution of weekly grocery ads across multiple wholesalers and warehouse networks.

· Request and evaluate weekly ad quotes from wholesalers and key suppliers, including perishable partners, to select competitive and profitable offers.

· Write and review ads with a focus on customer value, price perception, item mix, and maximum blended gross margin.

· Coordinate promotional planners and activity with key beverage, snack, pizza, bread, liquor, and other vendor partners.

· Standardize perishable promotions across applicable markets while accounting for local supply, cost, and customer needs.

TPR & Retail Pricing Management

· Manage weekly temporary price reduction (TPR) files from wholesalers and monthly or quarterly promotional files from direct-store-delivery partners.

· Analyze proposed promotional retails against regular retail structures and recommend pricing that protects value perception while increasing gross-profit dollars.

· Identify multi-unit pricing opportunities that encourage larger purchases and improve promotional performance.

· Set retails on promotional costs and maintain pricing discipline across vendors, categories, and locations.

Loyalty & Digital Coupon Strategy

· Develop high-impact Deal of the Week and digital coupon offers for an established mobile app and loyalty rewards program.

· Use cost of goods, high-low pricing, and coupon mechanics to create standout customer value without defaulting to traditional sell-at-cost loss leaders.

· Evaluate offer performance, including units, redemption, price perception, and incremental gross profit, and use the findings to improve future promotions.

· Coordinate funded offers from ad groups and wholesalers, track activity, and submit accurate reimbursement documentation each month.

Strategic Buying & Vendor Partnerships

· Use food shows, wholesaler hot sheets, web blasts, warehouse inventory opportunities, and perishable hot buys to secure favorable costs.

· Build productive relationships with wholesalers, suppliers, brokers, ad groups, and vendor partners to improve cost of goods and market competitiveness.

· Evaluate opportunistic buys for financial benefit, customer relevance, inventory risk, and operational feasibility.

· Partner with internal operations, merchandising, marketing, and store teams to ensure promotions are executable and communicated clearly.

Qualifications

· Progressive experience in grocery retail pricing, merchandising, category management, promotions, procurement, or a related commercial function.

· Strong understanding of retail pricing, promotional margin, gross-profit dollars, cost of goods, TPR programs, and high-low pricing strategies.

· Advanced spreadsheet and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret large pricing files and turn data into clear decisions.

· Experience working with wholesalers, direct-store-delivery vendors, brokers, or supplier promotional programs.

· Strong negotiation, organization, communication, and follow-through skills in a fast-moving weekly retail cycle.

· Ability to balance customer value, competitive positioning, profitability, and store-level execution.

Preferred Experience

· Multi-store or multi-market grocery retail experience.

· Experience with loyalty platforms, mobile offers, digital coupons, or vendor-funded promotions.

· Knowledge of center-store and perishable promotional planning across multiple distribution networks.

What Success Looks Like

· Ads and promotions consistently communicate strong value while achieving planned margin and gross-profit goals.

· TPR and digital offer strategies deliver measurable incremental profit and customer engagement.

· Vendor funding and reimbursements are captured accurately and on time.

· Strategic buys improve cost of goods without creating avoidable inventory or execution problems.

· Stores receive clear, timely, and executable promotional direction.
