Construction Buyer / Purchasing Manager

Fencing & Steel – Inventory, Job Cost & Field Support

Ideal candidates may come from roles such as Buyer, Materials Manager, Project Coordinator, or Purchasing Agent in a construction environment.

We are a growing fencing and steel fabrication company supporting both commercial and residential construction projects, including schools and large-scale developments. We are seeking a hands-on Purchasing Manager with direct construction experience who understands materials, job flow, and the urgency of keeping projects moving.

This role is responsible for purchasing fence materials, managing inventory, supporting job costing, and coordinating closely with project managers, field teams, and warehouse operations.

Key Responsibilities

Purchase fencing materials, steel, hardware, and related supplies for active construction projects
Coordinate with project managers and field teams to ensure materials are available and staged on time
Manage inventory levels, including stock items and job-specific materials
Issue purchase orders and track deliveries to ensure accuracy and timeliness
Resolve material issues including shortages, incorrect deliveries, and vendor discrepancies
Work closely with warehouse staff to support material staging and organization
Maintain accurate purchasing records to support job costing and accounting
Build and maintain strong vendor relationships; negotiate pricing and terms when appropriate
Monitor material usage and identify opportunities to reduce waste and control costs
Support multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced construction environment

Requirements

Minimum 3 years of construction purchasing experience (Required)
Strong understanding of construction materials
Experience supporting job-based purchasing and inventory management
Ability to manage multiple projects and shifting priorities
Strong communication skills with field, warehouse, and project management teams
Highly organized with attention to detail and follow-through
