Description

Public Works is currently hiring for several essential positions that play a critical role in maintaining the Town's infrastructure. To help fill these important vacancies, the Town has approved both a Sign-On Incentive Program and an Employee Referral Incentive Program.

Sign-On Incentive – $1,500

The $1,500 Sign-On Incentive is available for newly hired Public Works employees (excluding Administrative Staff).

Key details:

Paid on the employee's first paycheck following hire.
Limited to one sign-on incentive per employee while the program is in effect.
Employees who leave Town employment within 90 days must repay $750.
Incentives are paid through payroll and are subject to applicable taxes.

Employee Referral Incentive – $1,500

Help us recruit great candidates and earn extra income!

For eligible Public Works positions (excluding Administrative Staff), employees may receive:

$500 when the referred employee is hired.
$1,000 after the referred employee successfully completes six months of employment.
$1,500 total incentive.

Additional information:

Applicants must identify the referring employee on their employment application for the referral to qualify.
Incentives are paid through payroll and are subject to applicable taxes.

Under the direction of the Assistant Director of Engineering, performs technical engineering work in support of the design and construction of capital projects and assists Town engineers and project managers with project coordination and implementation.

Examples of Duties

Provides technical assistance to engineers, contractors, Town staff and the general public.
Researches and responds to inquiries regarding utility locations, construction standards, floodplain information, property boundary information, etc.
Prepares drawings and exhibits using AutoCAD software.
Prepares and assists with the development of engineering cost estimates for Town capital projects.
Communicates with engineers, contractors, Town staff and the general public.
Attends project related meetings with external customers as directed.
Operates and administers the division’s project management software, Procore, to manage tasks and user permissions, track workflow, and generate reports.
Maintains the document management system, Laserfiche, for the purposes of record keeping and archiving.
Coordinates and assists with construction closeout requirements and procedures.
Assists with inspection of public infrastructure construction and reconstruction by contractors on an as needed basis.
Assists with property acquisitions and condemnations.
Assists the general public with inquiries related to capital improvement projects.
Operates various types of office equipment to include computers, copiers, and printers.
Adheres to departmental, personnel, and safety policies and procedures.
Informs supervisor of all work activities.
Assists co-workers and other divisions, as needed.
Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

A High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) is required.
Two (2) years of experience in CAD design within civil engineering or related field is required.

Must be able to walk, bend, stoop, reach, climb, see, hear, talk, read, and write.
Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs. of heavy file boxes, books, equipment, etc. and file and retrieve items stored on high shelves.
May be subjected to uneven and/or muddy terrain, noise, chemical exposure, and adverse weather conditions.

Two (2) years of experience working with a municipal government or assisting with design of municipal infrastructure is preferred.

Knowledge/ Skills / Abilities

Must be familiar with and have a technical knowledge of accepted engineering practices.

Skill in identifying problems, evaluating information, and developing practical solutions.
Skill in performing mathematical calculations accurately.
Must have an ability to read and interpret construction drawings, maps and related drawings.
Must have a general knowledge of modern office practices and procedures.
Must be skilled in use of personal computer including Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, AutoCAD, GIS mapping, email and internet.
Must have excellent English oral and written communicative skills to include spelling, grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure.
Ability to work effectively with upset customers while maintaining a pleasant and friendly demeanor.
Must be able to understand and carry out oral and written directives; work well under pressure and stress; handle multiple tasks; prioritize and organize work assignments.
