Full Job Description

Job Summary

Join our dynamic healthcare team as an Operating Room Registered Nurse, where you will play a vital role in delivering exceptional perioperative patient care. This energetic position involves preparing patients for surgery, assisting during procedures, and ensuring the highest standards of sterile technique and patient safety. You will collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and surgical teams to facilitate smooth, efficient operations in a fast-paced environment. Your expertise will contribute to positive surgical outcomes and patient experiences, making a meaningful difference in lives every day.

Duties

Prepare operating rooms by ensuring all sterile equipment, supplies, and instruments are ready for scheduled surgeries and procedures.
Assist surgeons and anesthesia providers during operative procedures by passing instruments, managing surgical tools, and maintaining a sterile field.
Monitor patient vital signs and assess patient condition throughout surgery, responding swiftly to any changes or complications.
Administer medications, including IV infusions and anesthesia support as directed by physicians, following strict aseptic techniques.
Document all patient care activities accurately in electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic or Cerner, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations.
Support post-operative recovery by monitoring patients’ vital signs, managing pain levels, and providing wound care including suturing when necessary.
Maintain a safe and sterile environment by adhering to infection control protocols and sterilization procedures in accordance with hospital standards.

Skills

Proven experience working in an operating room setting with strong OR experience and aseptic technique mastery.
Proficiency with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic or Cerner for accurate medical documentation and patient records management.
Skilled in suturing, IV insertion, catheterization, tube feeding management, and ventilator care.
Knowledge of surgical procedures across specialties including ophthalmology, cardiology (cardiac catheterization), orthopedics, and trauma medicine (Level I & II trauma center experience).
Ability to perform comprehensive patient assessments, vital signs monitoring, and diagnostic evaluation during perioperative care.
Familiarity with medical terminology related to anesthesia, physiology knowledge, ICD coding (ICD-10/ICD-9), CPT coding for billing purposes, and laboratory experience.
Strong critical care skills including acute pain management, airway management, infection control practices, neonatal resuscitation procedures (NRP), and emergency response procedures.
Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams including behavioral health or hospice & palliative medicine when needed.
