Overview
Thrive Education Partners is seeking an exceptional educator to provide ongoing academic coaching and enrichment for two bright, curious students in upper elementary and middle school.
This is an ideal opportunity for a current or former classroom teacher, experienced private-school educator, or highly skilled academic tutor who loves working one-on-one with capable students and helping them become stronger, more confident, and increasingly independent learners.
These students do not need someone simply sitting beside them while they complete homework. We are looking for an educator who can think like a teacher: notice patterns, identify gaps, explain concepts in multiple ways, strengthen academic skills, teach students how to study and organize themselves, and bring intellectual energy and curiosity to sessions.
The strongest candidate will be particularly confident in upper-elementary and middle-school math and comfortable supporting students across the broader academic curriculum.
What You'll Do
- Provide consistent, individualized academic support for two students throughout the school year.
- Support upper-elementary through middle-school math, from strengthening foundational fluency to explaining increasingly complex concepts and problem-solving strategies.
- Help students develop the study skills and executive-functioning habits required for rigorous middle-school academics, including planning, organization, test preparation, time management, and managing longer-term assignments.
- Reinforce concepts from school while identifying and addressing gaps that may not be obvious from grades alone.
- Help students learn how to learn—how to approach unfamiliar material, prepare for assessments, work through frustration, and become less dependent on adults.
- Provide support across subjects when needed, including reading comprehension, writing, science, and general coursework.
- Find creative ways to connect academic material to students' interests and natural curiosity.
- Adjust explanations and strategies when a traditional approach isn't clicking.
- Build warm, authentic relationships with students while maintaining high expectations and appropriate accountability.
- Communicate thoughtfully with parents and the Thrive team about progress, priorities, and areas that may need additional attention.
Who We're Looking For
We are especially interested in candidates who bring:
- A bachelor's degree; education or strong academic subject-area background preferred.
- Meaningful experience teaching or tutoring academically capable upper-elementary and/or middle-school students.
- Strong command of math through the middle-school level and the ability to explain mathematical concepts clearly and flexibly.
- Experience helping students navigate the increased independence and academic expectations of middle school.
- Strong understanding of executive functioning, study skills, and academic coaching.
- The ability to quickly recognize why a student is stuck and find another way to explain or approach a concept.
- Comfort working with students who may have different learning styles or attention/executive-functioning profiles without lowering academic expectations.
- Intellectual curiosity and the ability to make learning interesting, relevant, and engaging.
- A warm, confident presence and an ability to connect with students who are bright, independent-minded, and developing their own interests.
- Excellent judgment and communication skills when partnering with parents.
- Reliability and the ability to commit consistently throughout the school year.
Current and former classroom teachers, independent-school educators, experienced academic tutors, and educators with strong middle-school math backgrounds are especially encouraged to apply.
This Role Is Probably a Great Fit If...
You love the moment when a student says, “Ohhh, now I get it.”
You enjoy working with students who ask interesting questions, make unexpected connections, and sometimes understand a sophisticated concept while somehow missing something much simpler.
You believe academic support should be about more than finishing tonight's assignment. You want students to leave your sessions more capable of tackling tomorrow's work on their own.
And you enjoy the freedom of one-on-one teaching—being able to slow down, speed up, go deeper, change your explanation, follow a student's curiosity, and teach the child in front of you rather than an entire classroom.
Why Thrive?
Thrive Education Partners connects exceptional educators with families seeking highly personalized educational support. We take matching seriously and consider academic expertise, personality, teaching style, student needs, and family dynamics when making placements.
Our tutors have the opportunity to do what great educators do best: build meaningful relationships, personalize instruction, maintain high expectations, and help students develop the skills and confidence to thrive.
If you're an experienced educator who is equally comfortable explaining a math concept, teaching a student how to prepare for a test, and figuring out a completely different way to approach something when the first explanation doesn't work, we'd love to hear from you.
