Sales Representative – Commercial Composting & Organics Diversion

Location: Denver Metro Area, Colorado
Company: Break It Down Compost Facility
Position Type: Full-Time
Reports To: Owners and Director of Communications and Marketing

About Break It Down

Break It Down is an innovative composting company helping businesses, multifamily communities, and food service operators divert organic waste from landfills while producing high-quality compost. Unlike standard food scrap collection services, Break It Down will swap full bins with clean containers during service visits. This approach minimizes contamination problems, preserves compost quality, reduces odors, and provides a cleaner experience for customers. Truly elevating compost services in Colorado.

As Denver's Universal Recycling and Composting Ordinance expands composting requirements across multifamily properties, restaurants, food businesses, and commercial facilities, Break It Down is growing its hauling division and seeking a motivated Sales Representative to help drive market expansion throughout the Denver Metro Area.

Position Summary

The Sales Representative will be responsible for generating new business opportunities, educating prospective customers about Denver's composting requirements, and converting leads into long-term hauling and composting service contracts.

This role combines strategic marketing execution with a proactive "hit-the-pavement" sales approach. Working closely with company ownership and the Director of Marketing, the Sales Representative will implement targeted outreach campaigns, conduct in-person visits, build relationships with property managers and business owners, and position Break It Down as Denver's preferred composting partner.

Key Responsibilities

Business Development

Identify and prospect multifamily communities, apartment complexes, restaurants, food service establishments, breweries, grocery stores, commercial kitchens, and other businesses impacted by Denver's composting ordinance.
Conduct in-person sales visits and door-to-door outreach throughout the Denver Metro Area.
Develop relationships with property managers, facility managers, restaurant owners, and sustainability coordinators.
Generate new service agreements and recurring hauling contracts.
Attend industry networking events, trade shows, chamber meetings, and sustainability-focused events.

Sales & Customer Education

Educate prospective clients on Denver's Universal Recycling and Composting Ordinance requirements.
Present Break It Down's unique model and explain its benefits:
Reduced contamination
Cleaner customer experience
Reduced odor and pest concerns
Simplified compliance
‘Right Size’ service model, that adjusts to your needs!
Conduct site assessments and recommend service plans in alignment with Denver’s Ordinance requirements.
Prepare and deliver proposals, pricing packages, and service agreements.
Manage sales pipeline through CRM systems and maintain accurate activity records.

Marketing Collaboration

Work directly with the Director of Marketing to execute market penetration strategies.
Follow established outreach campaigns and lead-generation initiatives.
Provide field feedback on customer concerns, competitive activity, and market opportunities.
Participate in customer education campaigns and promotional events.

Account Management

Ensure a smooth onboarding experience for new customers.
Collaborate remotely with the Account Management team to nurture and maintain relationships with key accounts, serving as the on-site point of contact when needed.
Identify upselling opportunities for additional services.
Collaborate with operations staff to ensure customer satisfaction.

Qualifications

Required

2+ years of sales, business development, or account management experience.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Self-motivated and comfortable working independently.
Ability to conduct in-person prospecting and cold outreach.
Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
Experience using CRM software and Microsoft Office or Google Workspace.
Experienced reporting to offsite management

Preferred

Experience selling waste, recycling, composting, environmental, or facility services.
Knowledge of Denver's sustainability initiatives and waste diversion programs.
Experience working with property management companies, restaurants, or commercial facilities.
Passion for sustainability and environmental stewardship.

Compensation

$50,400 salary plus 100% commission.
Vehicle allowance or mileage reimbursement.

New accounts acquired
Monthly recurring revenue generated
