Full Job Description

Overview

Are you passionate about building safe, healthy, and thriving communities? The City is seeking a dedicated Code Enforcement Inspector to join our Code Enforcement Division and help uphold the standards that protect our residents’ quality of life.

In this role, you will conduct professional field inspections, investigate code-related concerns, and manage cases to ensure compliance with municipal codes, land development regulations, and applicable international codes. Working under general supervision, you’ll play a key part in educating the public, promoting voluntary compliance, and applying fair, consistent enforcement practices.

Duties

Reads, interprets and applies City ordinances, code provisions
Conducts proactive, reactive, and follow-up property inspections (interior and exterior) related to municipal, land development, and applicable international codes to protect health, safety, and welfare
Performs research and investigative work in determining legal ownership of subject properties and extent of violation and non-compliance along with zoning, building, and parcel histories; provides clarification of applicable ordinances, procedures, and corrective actions in layman's terms
Responds to customer requests, questions, and complaints for service entered through the City’s Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system within established service levels
Meets with, advises, educates and guides property owners, business owners, tenants, HOAs, and other parties and otherwise provides highly accurate and reliable information regarding the City’s codes and appropriate ways and means to resolve violations and to maintain properties in compliance
Performs case management of all assigned code enforcement cases to include all correspondence, photo documents, citations, violations, legal notices and affidavits
Prepares accurate and complete reports, and builds activity files suitable for presentation in judicial, and/or quasi-judicial proceedings and/or hearings
Consistently follows proper safety protocols during fieldwork and inspections, proactively identifies potential hazards, and takes appropriate action to prevent accidents
Operates a City vehicle for the majority of the shift, driving under normal and potentially hazardous conditions while adhering to all safety and traffic regulations
Participates in local and national training sessions to maintain and expand expertise in current, revised, and newly adopted state and local codes, ordinances, and laws
Removes unauthorized signs and covers minor graffiti within the public right-of-way
Collaborates across departments and divisions to resolve violations and achieve compliance
Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED required. Two years of code enforcement work experience to include public interaction, conflict resolution, and familiarity with legal procedures is required. An equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered. Must possess a valid driver’s license with a safe driving record (and maintain while employed in this position). Must possess, or be able to obtain, a Basic Code Enforcement Certification through the Colorado Association of Code Enforcement Officials within two years from the date of hire, and a Housing and Property Maintenance Inspector Certification through the International Code Council (ICC) within one year from the date of hire.
