The Deputy Director of Community Safety and Well-Being is a key thought and culture leader for a multi-disciplinary department that aims to Improve Systems, Strengthen Neighborhoods, and Elevate People. The Deputy Director is grounded in the principles of justice, humanity, and inclusivity, and balances technical competency with strong interpersonal relations. This position maintains department-wide responsibilities while directly overseeing any combination of the following service areas (determined based on experience, interest, and professional development): Poverty Reduction and Homelessness Services, Business Services, Collaborative Management Partnership, Neighborhood Services (Code Compliance and Animal Management) Community Corrections contract and performance administration, and Data and Evaluation. This role serves in an executive capacity and, working directly with the department Director, operates as a strategic advisor, development coach, and liaison to the Executive Leadership Team and Board of County Commissioners.

Leverages data appropriately to aid in decision-making, program evaluation, and information sharing.
Acts as the director of the department during times in which the director is absent.
Performs any other duties as needed to drive the vision, fulfill the mission, and abide by the values of the organization.

Supervisory Responsibilities
Exercises direct supervision over staff, including full supervision of the managers/administrators in assigned areas. Also, assists the Director with the supervision of managers not in the assigned area. Acts as the Department Director in their absence.

Ability to analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, project consequences of proposed actions, and implement recommendations in support of goals.
Ability to plan, analyze, and evaluate programs and services, operational needs, and fiscal constraints.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with department staff, other departments, and other stakeholders and residents.
Ability to establish, maintain, and foster positive and harmonious working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Ability to work independently.
Knowledge of and the ability to use excellent oral and written communication; ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

More Qualifications for Success

This position requires nine (9) years of combined experience from the categories below: with a minimum of one year in Public Administration, Neighborhood Services, Community Corrections, Criminal Justice, Public Safety, Data/Evaluation, or a related field.

Professional Experience:

Nine (9) years of related field experience with increased complexity and responsibility
Supervisory experience: Minimum of three (3) years leading and managing teams
Minimum of two (2) years in state/local government, community-based non-profit, social work, education, poverty/homelessness, criminal justice, data/evaluation, compliance, etc.
Direct work or volunteering with vulnerable populations, homelessness, or experience in receiving public benefits can substitute for professional experience on a year for year basis.
Preferred two (2) years of leading or assisting in the development of community-facing programs.

Academic Experience: None required, Masters in a related field preferred

Up to five (5) years towards combined experience for completion of an accredited degree program(s); or, up to one (1) year for demonstrated higher education on a six (6) month basis of full-time enrollment.
One semester equals six (6) months; two (2) semesters equal one (1) year. Transcript required.

Comparable Experience: None required.

Comparable experience includes justice system involvement, incarceration, poverty and homelessness, and/or behavioral health.
Up to two (2) years towards combined experience for demonstrated comparable experience.*

License or Certificate:

Must possess, or have the ability to obtain, and maintain, a valid Colorado driver's license.
Possession of, or ability to obtain, and maintain, Colorado certification of CCIC/NCIC operation.
