Anesthesia & Surgery Technician, RVT

We are seeking an Anesthesia & Surgery Technician to join our team as we prepare to open a state-of-the-art, independent emergency and specialty hospital in south Denver in 2026. We will offer 24/7 emergency care and a full range of specialty services.

Job Summary

The Registered Veterinary Technician (Anesthesia & Surgery) plays a vital role in supporting the delivery of exceptional surgical care by partnering closely with board-certified surgeons, anesthesiologists, specialty clinicians, and the multidisciplinary care team. This individual is primarily responsible for providing advanced anesthesia care while supporting complex surgical procedures across multiple specialties. The RVT will oversee anesthetic planning, induction, monitoring, recovery, pain management, and patient safety while collaborating closely with surgeons and the surgical nursing team to ensure the highest standard of perioperative care.

The ideal candidate is a credentialed veterinary technician with advanced anesthesia knowledge, exceptional technical skills, and a passion for patient safety. This individual thrives in a fast-paced specialty environment, demonstrates excellent critical thinking and attention to detail, and is committed to continuous learning and clinical excellence. They will work closely with the Surgery team to provide expert anesthesia management while contributing to an efficient, collaborative, and supportive service.

Key Responsibilities

Anesthesia Management

· Independently develop, induce, monitor, and recover anesthesia for a wide variety of surgical and diagnostic procedures

· Continuously assess patient status and adjust anesthetic protocols under veterinarian direction to ensure optimal patient safety

· Administer and monitor anesthetic agents, analgesics, fluid therapy, blood products, and emergency medications

· Recognize and respond appropriately to anesthetic complications and emergencies

Surgical Support

· Prepare patients for surgery including catheter placement, laboratory collection, clipping, aseptic preparation, and positioning

· Assist surgeons with intraoperative patient support and sterile procedures as needed

· Coordinate operating room readiness including anesthesia equipment, monitoring devices, and surgical supplies

Patient Care & Recovery

· Provide advanced perioperative nursing care before, during, and after surgery

· Develop individualized pain management plans in collaboration with the surgical team

· Monitor patients through recovery, ensuring safe extubation and postoperative stabilization

Collaboration

· Partner closely with surgeons, emergency clinicians, criticalists, radiology, cardiology, and specialty teams to provide anesthesia support across the hospital

· Assist in mentoring technicians in anesthesia best practices and patient monitoring

· Support ongoing quality improvement initiatives related to anesthesia safety and surgical care

Qualifications

· Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT, CVT, or LVT) required

· Minimum 3+ years of experience in veterinary specialty or emergency medicine preferred

· Extensive anesthesia monitoring experience required

· Advanced knowledge of anesthetic protocols, ventilator management, pain management, and physiologic monitoring

· Experience with complex soft tissue, orthopedic, neurologic, thoracic, and minimally invasive procedures preferred

· Excellent communication and teamwork skills

· Ability to remain calm and make sound clinical decisions in high-acuity situations

· Strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail

· Commitment to continuous learning and professional development

· VTS (Anesthesia & Analgesia) or VTS candidate preferred but not required

· Ensure accurate documentation of anesthesia records, medications, controlled substances, and perioperative care
