Full Job Description

Utility Locating TechnicianPosition Summary:
The Utility Locating Technician is responsible for accurately identifying, marking, and documenting underground utilities to prevent damage during excavation activities. This role plays a critical part in damage prevention, public safety, and infrastructure protection by ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations.Key Responsibilities:

Locate and mark underground utilities including electric, gas, water, sewer, telecommunications, and fiber lines.
Respond to 811/One-Call tickets within required timeframes.
Interpret and analyze utility maps, construction drawings, and blueprints.
Use electromagnetic locating equipment and ground-penetrating radar (GPR) to identify subsurface infrastructure.
Clearly mark utilities using industry-standard color codes.
Document locate results accurately using mobile data systems and GPS mapping tools.
Communicate effectively with contractors, excavators, property owners, and utility providers.
Maintain company vehicles, locating equipment, and safety gear.
Ensure compliance with OSHA, state, and company safety standards.
Perform damage investigations and provide detailed incident reports when necessary.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent required.
Previous experience in utility locating, construction, or underground infrastructure preferred.
Knowledge of damage prevention practices and 811 call systems.
Ability to read and interpret maps and technical drawings.
Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
Valid driver’s license with clean driving record.
Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
Ability to walk long distances and lift up to 50 lbs.

Skills & Competencies:

Technical proficiency with locating equipment and GPS systems.
Strong communication and customer service skills.
Time management and ability to work independently.
Safety-oriented mindset.
Basic computer and mobile device proficiency.

Work Environment:

Outdoor field-based position.
Exposure to varying weather conditions and terrain.
May require on-call hours, overtime, and emergency response.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $21.00 - $30.00 per hour
