Director of Music
Reports to: Pastor, Staff Parish Relations Committee
Status: Part-Time (20 hours)
Mission
To serve Walnut Hills by developing, coordinating, administering, and evaluating an effective, well-rounded music program, in accordance with the mission and vision of the church. To encourage member participation in the music ministry and to provide leadership and support to ministers, lay staff, music and other leaders, members of the congregation, and volunteers involved in the music ministries of the church.
Position Summary
Plan, develop, direct, organize and coordinate a comprehensive music program for the church including content, schedule, leaders and participants.

Primary Responsibilities
● Create, schedule, and develop a variety of vocal and instrumental programs, including, but not limited to, vocal and instrumental music for children, youth and adults, including choirs, ensembles and soloists.
● Establish music ministry goals and objectives in keeping with the vision and mission of Walnut Hills.
● Lead Sunday School music time each week, when there is Sunday School.
● Serve as advisor and coordinator to paid and volunteer music staff.
● Recruit volunteers and new participants to grow the music programs and create new ways to use music as a part of the worship service and special events.
● Attend and participate in regularly scheduled staff meetings as available.
● Convene and attend regularly scheduled rehearsals for the various groups under their direction.
● Maintain regular communications with the musicians, and staff for worship, weddings, funerals, and other special events, when applicable.
● Maintain regular communications with parents/guardians of children and youth as well as adults in the music programs.
● Develop and activate music plans in the event that the music director is unavailable
● Administer the work of the Music Department by encouraging teamwork and mutual support, and provide leadership to nurture staff members and volunteers.
● Prioritize and plan appropriate budgets, order music and maintain the music library of the church, organize the music room and maintain instruments.
● Evaluate the progress and well being of the music programs regularly.
● Utilize the staff Google Calendar to post and maintain regular office hours at the church while remaining flexible to accommodate worship and rehearsal needs and schedules.
● Maintain office hour accessibility by email, telephone, and other communications.
● Substitute for other staff and volunteers when needed.
● Identify and participate in relevant professional development opportunities.
● Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Senior Pastor / SPRC.
Position Qualifications
● Proficiency in vocal and instrumental music direction.
● Broad-based musical background in directing, singing, and participating in vocal and instrumental ensembles.
● Work experience or active participation in the life and music ministry of a church compatible with the ministry and mission of Walnut Hills.
● College degree in music. An emphasis in religion or sacred music or comparable related experience is preferred.
Core Competencies
● Ability to read music and chord charts.
● Piano skills preferred.
● Ability to recruit and work with children, youth, and adults to develop and participate in appropriate curriculum in the church's music ministry.
● Ability to collaborate with staff and volunteers.
● Ability to select and direct developmentally appropriate music for children, youth, and adults.
● Good verbal and written communication skills.
● Timeliness, dependability, attention to detail, ability to independently manage time well, effective planning, coordination, and organizational skills.
● Ability to assess and implement new and innovative methods and programs to enhance the musical ministry and worship services of the church, in consultation with the senior pastor.
● Ability to gain knowledge of technical equipment and the use of said equipment.
Pay: $25,000.00 - $28,000.00 per year
