Full Job Description

Used Car Director – Northern Illinois

Location: Northern Illinois

Position: Used Car Director

Industry: Automotive Retail – Domestic & Import Brands

A well-established, privately owned multi-state automotive dealer group is seeking an experienced Used Car Director for one of our dealerships in Northern Illinois.

This position will be focused exclusively on the used-vehicle operation at this location. The dealership represents domestic and import brands and serves a strong market within the greater Chicago region.

We are looking for a proven used-car operator who understands every aspect of running a successful pre-owned department—from acquisition and appraisals to inventory management, pricing, merchandising, retail execution and wholesale.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the complete used-car operation for the dealership
Develop and execute an aggressive vehicle acquisition strategy
Manage inventory levels, mix, aging and turn
Oversee appraisals and ensure trades are valued accurately and competitively
Manage market-based pricing and online merchandising
Develop acquisition channels beyond traditional trade-ins
Manage auction purchasing and wholesale activity
Minimize aged inventory and unnecessary wholesale losses
Work closely with dealership management and the sales team to maximize used retail volume and profitability
Monitor gross profit, inventory turn, days supply and other key performance indicators
Establish strong processes and accountability throughout the department

Who We’re Looking For

We are seeking an experienced Used Car Director or Used Car Manager with a demonstrated record of success.

The ideal candidate will have:

Significant automotive retail management experience
Strong used-car buying and appraisal skills
Proven ability to manage a substantial used-vehicle inventory
Thorough understanding of aging, turn and market-based pricing
Strong knowledge of auctions and alternative acquisition channels
Experience with domestic and/or import franchises
Strong leadership and accountability skills
A hands-on operating mentality

This is not a corporate or multi-store oversight position. You will have direct responsibility for the used-car operation at one Northern Illinois dealership while having the resources, stability and opportunities that come from being part of a larger multi-state dealer group.
