Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and proactive Referral Coordinator to join our healthcare team. In this vital role, you will serve as the primary point of contact for managing patient referrals, ensuring seamless communication between providers, insurance companies, and patients. Your expertise will help facilitate timely access to specialized care while maintaining compliance with healthcare regulations. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to improved patient outcomes through efficient referral processes and exceptional customer service.

Responsibilities

Coordinate and process patient referrals efficiently, ensuring all necessary documentation is complete and accurate.
Verify insurance coverage, obtain prior authorization when required, and confirm benefits with managed care organizations.
Maintain detailed records of referrals, appointments, and correspondence within electronic health records (EHR) systems.
Communicate clearly with patients, providers, and insurance representatives to facilitate smooth referral workflows.
Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations and clinical confidentiality policies during all interactions and record management.
Utilize medical terminology, CPT coding, ICD-9, ICD-10, and ICD coding to accurately document referral details and medical records.
Follow up on pending referrals to confirm appointment scheduling and resolve any issues that arise during the process.

Skills

Strong knowledge of health insurance policies, managed care processes, and insurance verification procedures.
Proficiency in electronic health records (EHR) management systems and Microsoft Office applications.
Familiarity with medical billing, medical coding (including CPT, ICD-9, ICD-10), and healthcare documentation standards.
Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
Understanding of clinical confidentiality policies such as HIPAA to protect patient privacy at all times.
Experience in a medical office environment or healthcare setting is highly preferred.
Ability to multitask efficiently while maintaining attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
