Recovery Support Specialist - Bridge Housing

About the Pope Francis Center: Pope Francis Center exists to provide meals, supportive services, and housing assistance to Detroit community members in need, especially those experiencing homelessness. On an average day, we welcome over 200 guests and provide them with nutritious meals, showers, laundry, and access to doctors, dentists, lawyers, and housing providers through our free clinics. We have been serving Detroit’s most vulnerable citizens for over 30 years, and we envision a Detroit without homelessness, where every person has the resources for sustained stability.

Job Description: Join us as a Recovery Support Specialist (Part-time) at the Bridge Housing Campus and play a pivotal role in transforming lives. This role is more than a job; it’s a calling to make a real difference in the lives of our residents. You will collaborate with a dedicated team committed to enhancing our bridge housing program. Your work will directly contribute to creating a nurturing and welcoming space within the community, embodying our mission to provide not just shelter, but real transformation in people's lives.

The Recovery Support Specialist at the Pope Francis Center Bridge Housing Campus is responsible for supporting guests in their daily life, providing addiction recovery support, and facilitating general recovery support groups. This role ensures that residents have access to activities and resources that promote their personal development and well-being.

Responsibilities:

Addiction Recovery Programs:

12-Step Facilitation: Coordinate 12-step meetings and support groups for residents struggling with addiction, providing guidance and resources to support their recovery journey. A key goal is to coordinate open 12-step meetings throughout the week.
Addiction Education: Conduct educational workshops on addiction, recovery, and coping strategies.
Individual Support: Provide one-on-one support to residents, helping them set and achieve personal goals, monitor their progress, and provide ongoing encouragement.

General Recovery Support:

Support Groups: Facilitate general recovery support groups for residents not dealing with addiction but needing support for other life challenges.
Life Skills Workshops: Organize and lead workshops on life skills, stress management, and personal development.

Team Collaboration and Guest Engagement:

Team Integration: Work closely with the Associate Director, Residential Manager, and case workers to integrate educational programs into residents' individualized care plans.
Meeting Participation: Participate in team meetings to discuss resident progress and program effectiveness.
Resident Engagement: Be ready to engage in daily life activities as well as support schedules and activities as needed.

Documentation, Evaluation, and Reporting:

Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of resident interactions, progress, and outcomes.
Reporting: Prepare regular reports on recovery support activities, resident progress, and data insights for review by the Associate Director and other leadership.

Ideal Candidates Possess:

Candidates for this position must have experience receiving mental health treatment and/or recovery support services. Recipients of community mental health services are preferred. Peers must be willing to use their own recovery experience as a vehicle to helping others.
Additional requirements include a nonjudgmental approach that reflects cultural competency and sensitivity to the unique needs and diverse experiences of adult men with mental illness, their families and supporters.
A bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, education, or a certifications as a Peer Support Specialist, Certified Recovery Coach, or other relevant training is ideal, but candidates with strong work experience will be considered.
Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in addiction recovery support or related field.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Proficiency in Google Suite and other relevant software.
Compassionate and empathetic approach to working with vulnerable populations.
Must possess a valid drivers license

Working Conditions: This job primarily operates in-person in a dynamic social services setting.
