Cigar Sommelier & Retail Associate

Full-time position
Approximately 40 hours per week

La Casa Cigars is seeking an experienced Cigar Sommelier and Retail Associate to join our team.

The ideal candidate is knowledgeable, polished, personable, and genuinely passionate about cigar culture. This position plays an important role in creating the elevated, welcoming experience La Casa is known for, while helping customers and members confidently select cigars, accessories, gifts, and services.

The selected candidate will work primarily in the retail area of La Casa, assisting both experienced cigar enthusiasts and customers who are new to cigars.

Responsibilities

Welcome customers and members and provide attentive, knowledgeable service.
Recommend cigars based on customer preferences, experience level, flavor profile, occasion, and budget.
Educate customers on cigar brands, regions, wrappers, fillers, sizes, construction, aging, storage, and proper enjoyment.
Maintain a strong understanding of La Casa’s cigar inventory, accessories, merchandise, promotions, and membership benefits.
Explain and recommend cigar accessories, including cutters, lighters, humidors, cases, ashtrays, and related products.
Assist customers with available discounts, promotions, purchases, and loyalty or membership benefits.
Introduce customers to additional La Casa services, including private events, celebrations, corporate gatherings, cigar experiences, and personalized engraving.
Help create customized cigar and gift recommendations for birthdays, weddings, corporate events, anniversaries, and other special occasions.
Build long-term relationships with customers and members by remembering their preferences and providing consistent, personalized service.
Maintain an organized, clean, attractive, and properly stocked retail environment.
Monitor cigar presentation and humidor conditions and assist with inventory organization and product rotation.
Accurately operate the point-of-sale system and process purchases, discounts, and payments.
Collaborate with management and team members to support daily operations, events, promotions, and sales goals.
Represent La Casa with professionalism, discretion, warmth, and enthusiasm.

Qualifications

Minimum of two to three years of hands-on cigar industry, premium tobacco retail, or comparable cigar hospitality experience.
In-depth knowledge of cigar brands, manufacturers, tobacco-growing regions, cigar composition, flavor profiles, construction, and terminology.
Strong understanding of the premium cigar business and the customer experience associated with luxury cigar retail.
Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and customer-service skills.
Ability to explain cigar information in a knowledgeable but approachable manner.
Strong sales instincts without creating a high-pressure shopping experience.
Professional, neat, and presentable appearance.
Dependable, punctual, organized, and detail-oriented.
Positive attitude and ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Comfortable working with a wide range of customers, personalities, and levels of cigar knowledge.
Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events as needed.
Must meet all legal age requirements for working with tobacco products.
