Full Job Description

Position Title: Behavioralist
Date: July 2026
Reports To: Chief Operations Officer (COO)

Type: Administrative – Exempt

Department: Clinical

Grade: 13

POSITION PURPOSE

Under the general supervision of the Chief Operations Officer (COO), the Behavioralist provides comprehensive outpatient behavioral health services within Authority Health's integrated primary care model. The Behavioralist delivers evidence-based assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, psychotherapy, crisis intervention, consultation, and care coordination for individuals and families experiencing behavioral health concerns. Working collaboratively with primary care providers and interdisciplinary team members, the Behavioralist promotes whole-person, patient-centered care that improves behavioral, physical, and social health outcomes while supporting the mission and regulatory requirements of a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC).

QUALIFICATIONS

Master’s degree in social work, Counseling, Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy, or a closely related behavioral health field.
Current State of Michigan licensure as one of the following: LLMSW, LMSW, LLPC, LPC, LLMFT, LMFT, TLLP, or LLP.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
Proficiency in the use of electronic health records (EHRs).
Understanding of substance use disorders and co-occurring disorders treatment.
Working knowledge of conflict resolution, crisis intervention, person-centered planning, trauma-informed care, and clinical compliance practices.
Ability to work effectively with individuals experiencing mental health, substance use, behavioral, or physical health challenges.
Ability to foster an inclusive environment that values diversity and promotes equitable care regardless of race, ethnicity, national origin, gender, religion, age, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity, or disability.
Ability to prepare clear, concise clinical documentation and develop effective treatment plans.
Ability to collaborate effectively and build positive interdisciplinary relationships.
Ability to measure treatment outcomes and recognize the importance of collecting and reporting clinical outcome data.
Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal, customer service, time management, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills.
Ability to exercise sound discretion and judgment when handling sensitive and confidential information.
Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and knowledge of applicable federal and state healthcare laws and regulations.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Conduct thorough behavioral, psychosocial, and functional assessments to develop individualized, evidence-based intervention plans.
Provide clinically appropriate outpatient behavioral health services, including individual counseling, psychotherapy, family therapy, and group therapy using evidence-based treatment modalities.
Conduct comprehensive biopsychosocial assessments at intake and annually, or more frequently as clinically indicated.
Develop, implement, and maintain individualized, person-centered treatment plans with measurable goals and interventions.
Monitor, evaluate, and document patient progress toward treatment goals, modifying interventions as clinically appropriate.
Coordinate services with primary care providers, specialists, case managers, and community partners.
Implement evidence-based behavioral interventions and monitor their effectiveness.
Utilize trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and recovery-oriented approaches in the delivery of services.
Provide education and consultation to patients, families, caregivers, and staff.
Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure holistic, coordinated care.
Participate in multidisciplinary case conferences and integrated care team meetings.
Engage in crisis intervention and develop preventive safety plans when clinically indicated.
Advocate for patients to access healthcare and community resources.
Complete documentation accurately, thoroughly, and within established timelines in accordance with Authority Health policies and payer, accreditation, and regulatory requirements.
Maintain compliance with HIPAA, HRSA/FQHC standards, Authority Health policies, and all applicable federal, state, and local laws.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
