Overview

Join our dynamic healthcare team as a Laboratory Technician specializing in. In this vital role, you will support clinical and research laboratory operations, ensuring accurate specimen processing, precise laboratory testing, and adherence to regulatory standards. Your expertise will contribute directly to patient care, medical research, and the advancement of diagnostic accuracy. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment where your skills in laboratory techniques and physiology make a meaningful difference every day.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Histology Technician (HT/HTL or eligible) is responsible for all phases of specimen handling and slide preparation of pathology specimens. This includes quality control, quality assurance, instrument maintenance, and technical problem resolution. Histotechnologists are service oriented, capable of exercising good judgement and problem resolution with systems, instruments and procedures. Histotechnologists shall be identified with caring actions that contribute to high levels of service. They share responsibility to treat fellow employees as working partners of the health care team.

PRINICIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES:

· Participate in customer service.

· Contribute to the success of the organization by keeping current on new developments in the medical community.

· Observe universal precautions.

· Monitor supplies and order as needed.

· Follow through on problem resolution by notification of responsible person.

· Research questionable pathology specimens to assure correct patient outcome.

· Complete assigned workload within prescribed time limit.

· Utilize available continuing education to maintain and keep current knowledge of laboratory and histology procedures.

· Perform all routine and specialized histology slide prep and staining procedures.

· Troubleshoot procedures and instrumentation.

· Perform preventative maintenance on instruments utilized.

· Maintain legible, accurate complete logs and record of testing.

· Batch/scan/review daily requisition forms.

· Review of reports for documentation of testing facility.

· Perform other duties as needed or assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

· Knowledge of test procedures, their principles and medical implications.

· Knowledge of Chemical Hygiene Plan.

· Knowledge of specimen requirements for procedures performed.

· Knowledge of communication skills with ability to listen actively and respond to fellow employees, clients in a timely manner both verbally and non-verbally.

· Skillful in oral and written communication.

· Skilled in time management.

· Ability to analyze, evaluate and solve procedural problems.

· Ability to work efficiently under pressure.

· Ability to set priorities and use good judgement.

· Ability to meet organization and appearance standards on the job.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Must have documented training consistent with CLIA 88 requirements for the position held. This is to be reflective of the scope of practice and standards of practice in regular scheduled responsibilities and pay grade meeting all the HCFA-CLIA 88 criteria. In addition, all histotechnicians and histotechnologists are required by the U.S. Credential Maintenance Program to maintain 36 points every three years as outlined by the ASCP Board of Certification.
