DIRECTOR OF HUMAN RESOURCES
Position Description
We're looking for a proactive and detail-oriented Director of Human Resources to play a key role in delivering exceptional employee experiences across the organization. This role will support the full employee lifecycle — from onboarding to off-boarding — and help drive engagement, retention, and culture-building initiatives. You'll partner closely with employees, managers, and leadership to ensure our Human Resources department run smoothly, policies are clear and accessible, and every team member feels supported throughout their journey with us. This role requires both strategic thinking and operational excellence, with the ability to partner across teams and maintain a high bar for confidentiality, accuracy, and service.
Position Summary:
The Director of Human Resources will play an integral role providing Human Resources and payroll administration for Churchlight Communities employees. This individual carries out responsibilities in the following functional areas: Human Resource Information Systems (Paychex Flex), benefits, onboarding, payroll, and will serve as the first line support for the HR department. This position will be responsible for processing bi-weekly payroll.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
*Serve as 1st line contact for employee questions and inquiries in the HR department. Monitors HR email platform to ensure all inquiries and questions are responded to within 48 hours and resolved in a timely fashion. HR partner to the business to support a high-performance, positive and engaged culture which includes knowledge in the areas of benefits, worker’s compensation, recruiting, onboarding, employee relations, policies, and orientation programs.
*Responsible for processing biweekly payroll. This includes accuracy in multi-state details, time and attendance, proper set up of federal, state and local taxes within Paychex Flex and other agencies, all employment and status changes including new hires and terms, child support orders, liens, and garnishments, bonus & merit increases changes.
*Maintains accuracy of Paychex Flex records and creates reports as requested. Responsible for administering accurate HRIS workflows including open enrollment modules, new employee benefit enrollment workflow and profiles, and creates efficiencies and corrections to the Paychex Flex set up as needed.
*Reviews weekly/monthly/quarterly filings performed by Paychex Flex.
*Regularly reviews tax compliance and tax communications from states and Paychex Flex to ensure all payroll taxes and required filings are complete and accurate.
*Manages unemployment insurance payments and coordinates filings to ensure all charges are reviewed and paid including submitting quarterly Multistate report requests.
*Review W2 information and forms 1095-C through Paychex Flex at year end.
*Coordinates proper allocation of employees and benefits to corporate and community accounts.
*Coordinates the onboarding program and will work with hiring manager to ensure all paperwork is complete and signed, I9 information is complete and verified (e-verify submitted), and new employee is set up for a seamless onboarding experience. Communicates with hiring manager and new employee as applicable.
*Provides new employee trainings on Paychex Flex self-service, time & attendance and the payroll process, manager service, and other trainings as requested.
*Coordinates open enrollment detail including open enrollment platform through Paychex Flex, and that all rates and benefit set ups are accurate
*Responsible for administering HR recordkeeping and retention process. Maintain accuracy of employee files and storage.
*Manage Workers Compensation claims.
*Coordinates requested payroll reports and records for annual 401k audit.
*Responsible for other administrative duties including compliance tasks, filing, updating staff information on Paychex Flex/intranet, updating and keeping accurate copies of labor law posters for every state, sorting, distributing and/or completing mail as applicable, mailing checks or HR information as needed, etc.
*Other duties and HR projects as assigned
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- *Proficiency in Human Resources (HR) management, including talent acquisition, onboarding, and HR operations
- *Extensive knowledge of HR Policies and experience in developing and implementing them
- *Strong expertise in Employee Relations, including conflict resolution and promoting a positive workplace culture
- *Experience in Performance Management systems, processes, and methods
- *In-depth understanding of Labor and Employment Law and ensuring organizational compliance
- *Strong leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
- *Ability to work efficiently in a collaborative and on-site environment
- *Experience in real estate or property management sectors is a plus
*2 + years in Managing Human Resources department
*Knowledge of payroll best practices.
*Passion for HR industry and demonstrated interest in continuous learning.
*Excellent customer service and communication skills.
*Ability to maintain confidentiality.
*Proven attention to detail and exceptional organizational skills
*Intermediate Microsoft Office Suite skills (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
*Excellent interpersonal and coaching skills
*Ability to work independently, problem solve, and take ownership of projects
Education:
*Associates Degree in Human Resource Management, Business, or related major. Bachelor’s Degree preferred. Payroll or HR certification experience a plus.
Experience:
3+ years’ experience administering payroll and benefits through Paychex Flex Workforce Now or similar payroll system and Director of Human Resources related experience. Paychex Flex Workforce Now experience preferred
Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Willing and able to work extended hours when necessary.
Travel is not required for this position.
