NOTICE OF ANTICIPATED VACANCY

SALARY: Per FEA Master Agreement 2026-2027 salary schedule (Preferred
starting salary range of $51,053 (BA) - $68,562 (MA), dependent on
experience and degree obtained)

START DATE: September 1, 2026 DEADLINE: June 30, 2026 or until filled

POSITION SUMMARY

The District Nurse promotes and protects the health and well-being of students and staff by
providing direct nursing care, health education, and preventive services within the school
setting. The District Nurse supports student success by addressing physical, mental,
emotional, and social health needs and ensuring compliance with state and district health
regulations.

QUALIFICATIONS

Associates Degree or Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing (ADN/BSN)
Licensed as a Registered Nurse in Michigan
Pediatric and/or work experience with students; preferred
Experience working with G-tubes, Tracheostomies and chronic illnesses; preferred
Valid CPR certification
CPR Instructor certification; preferred or willing to obtain within 90 days of hire
Stop The Bleed Instructor; preferred or willing to obtain within 90 days of hire
Ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with students, staff

members, parents and the community.

appropriate and acceptable.

REQUIRED SKILLS

Adherence to strong professional ethics and legal requirements for confidentiality

regarding students’ records; HIPPA and FERPA regulations.

Ability to work effectively, collaboratively and positively with employees, students,

parents, medical personnel and the general public.

Ability to adapt the nursing process to fit the health needs of each school community.

Communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, to a diverse audience.
Excellent time-management, problem-prevention and problem-solving skills.
Flexible schedule in order to meet the needs and demands of the position
Proficient with Google Workspace
Follow all school policies and procedures

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide daily and emergency care to students and staff.
Communicate with parents/guardians and children regarding health problems.
Develop and maintain Nursing Care Plans and Emergency Action Plans for students

with medical issues. Provide staff training and delegation of care based on these plans.

Frequent on-site visits to be sure trained unlicensed staff are performing or providing

medical care appropriately.

Provide medical coverage for staff/classrooms as needed.
Teach in-services for staff (Stop the Bleed, CPR, First Aid, Allergies/Epi-Pens, Asthma,

Narcan, Diabetes, Seizures).

Manage school based stock medications (Epi-pens and Narcan).
Maintain current knowledge of evidence-based practices and community health issues.
Develop, update, and maintain health related policies, protocols, and procedures

based on evidence based research, standards of care, and with input from the
associated committees/boards.

Maintain compliance with national and local health laws.
Maintain connections with Oakland County Health Division as well as other community

agencies, schools and families to provide on-going health support.

Provide yearly training and perform cardiac drills with the Crisis Response Team at

each school
