Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM

Description:

We are seeking an experienced Cost Accountant to support the financial operations of a manufacturing site in Devens, MA. This is a hands-on accounting role with a strong emphasis on cost accounting, standard costing, operational finance, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and internal controls.

The ideal candidate will come from a manufacturing environment and understand how operational decisions affect the P&L and balance sheet. Experience in aerospace or another highly regulated manufacturing environment is highly desirable.

This position will partner closely with operations and functional leaders to improve growth, profitability, financial performance, and business processes. The role will support a manufacturing site representing approximately $79 million in revenue.

Key Responsibilities

Manage and analyze cost accounting activities, including standard costing and manufacturing costs.
Partner with operations and functional leaders to understand cost drivers and their impact on the P&L and balance sheet.
Prepare and analyze general ledger, asset, liability, and capital account entries.
Prepare balance sheets, profit and loss statements, management reports, and other financial analyses.
Analyze financial information, trends, variances, and operational performance to support business decisions.
Reconcile financial discrepancies and investigate root causes.
Support budgeting, forecasting, financial planning, and performance measurement.
Provide management with accounting and financial information necessary to make informed business decisions.
Maintain strong accounting controls and support compliance with accounting policies and procedures.
Assist with internal controls, audits, and compliance initiatives.
Research and interpret accounting policies, regulations, and requirements.
Apply GAAP and relevant cost accounting principles to financial activities.
Support financial system implementations, process improvements, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Identify opportunities to automate financial processes and improve reporting efficiency.
Utilize tools such as Excel, macros, Power BI, and automated accounting systems to improve analysis and reporting.
Participate in cross-functional and special project teams, including projects involving operations and process improvement.
Develop and maintain accounting policies and procedures as needed.
Communicate financial findings and recommendations effectively to management and cross-functional stakeholders.
Serve as a financial business partner to site leadership and operations.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field required.
Advanced degree preferred.
2–5 years of experience in accounting, with significant cost accounting experience.
Manufacturing industry experience is required.
Strong understanding of standard costing and manufacturing cost accounting.
Demonstrated understanding of how operational activities and decisions affect financial results, including the P&L and balance sheet.
Knowledge of GAAP and familiarity with Cost Accounting Standards (CAS) and/or Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR) is preferred.
Experience with budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and variance analysis.
Experience working with internal controls and accounting compliance.
Proficiency with automated accounting systems, Excel, and standard business applications.
Experience with Excel macros, Power BI, or other financial automation/reporting tools is highly desirable.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to collect data, identify trends, investigate discrepancies, and draw sound conclusions.
Strong communication and presentation skills with the ability to work effectively with accounting, operations, engineering, and other functional teams.
Ability to work independently while effectively collaborating in a cross-functional environment.
Strong attention to detail, organization, and commitment to financial accuracy and integrity.
