Director - Co-Occurring Home
This position is located at our Co-Occurring Group Home in Midland City, Al
Hours: Monday - Friday 8am - 4pm;
This position will require some on-call, weekends, evenings, and/or holidays as needed to meet program needs.
POSITION SUMMARY/FUNCTION
Plans, designs, organizes, operates, administers and supervises the total day to day operation of the CoOccurring program in cooperation with and under policies and procedures of SpectraCare. Makes recommendations, secures approvals and carries out courses of action to ensure and provide quality service delivery to clients and families in the program. Position will work in collaboration with the Assistant CoOccurring Director regarding on call rotation after hours, weekends and/or holidays and/or providing physical coverage within the program. Travel may be required within and beyond the five-county catchment area.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES/FUNCTIONS/TASKS:
1. Supervises and directs staff.

Supervises all activities of the the CoOccurring program including day treatment, staff, transportation, physical management, client development, food service and safety.

Initiates and develops in-service training for center staff and other interested groups.

Counsels with employees about problems at work, i.e. job assignment, relationships, performances, etc. and investigates areas of concern, resolving these and advising the employee and appropriate management of any action to be taken.

Counsels and maintains an effective work and training atmosphere benefiting volunteers, staff and attendees at the workplace and the class or program function.

Utilizes leadership skills to develop and maintain cooperative spirit and action among staff and individuals connected with the program.

Supervises admissions, discharges and treatment planning.
-
Coordinates with management concerning Substance Use treatment of clients.
2. Operates program in compliance with SpectraCare Policies and Procedures, including but not also limited to the Alabama Administrative Code, CMS, and all other applicable regulating and contractual entities.

Ensures client records are maintained in accordance with policies and procedures, including Alabama Administrative Code, CMS, and all other applicable regulating and contractual entities.

Serves as the custodian of records for CoOccurring to include but not limited to client charts. Works with the corporate legal department as needed to ensure compliance with HIPAA and other regulatory requirements.

Ensures administrative documentation is maintained according to policies and procedures, including but not limited to Alabama Administrative Code, CMS, and all other applicable regulating and contractual entities.

Supervises the preparation and submission of required center, state and federal reports.

Prepares for, assists in, the inspection and responds to the recommendations resulting from facility and program site reviews by the Alabama Department of Mental Health.

Provides assessments and delivery of substance use services to clients as needed to ensure quality of care and the accessing of contracts.
3. Oversees and provides therapeutic services for clients within the mental health / substance use program.

Perform Mental Health and/or Substance Use Assessments and make appropriate after assessment evaluations regarding services.

Provide contact to clients and direction in seeking mental health / substance use services or in placing them in services.
-
Organizes and performs individual, couple, family and/or group psychotherapy to clients. Employs therapeutic techniques and, in conjunction with supervisory staff, determines a course of treatment action involving psychotherapy, medication, hospitalization, etc. Provides follow-up services as well.

Responds to crisis intervention emergencies as needed at the facility during or after office hours.

Develops and follows treatment plan establishing individualized goals for clients in case load.

Provides education on mental illness/substance use and treatment to clients and families as necessary and appropriate. May also provide medication monitoring / crisis intervention / basic living skills.

Maintains a caseload and serve as part of the treatment team for individuals within the case load.
4. Maintains current policies and procedures manual, client information handbook and other written documents outlining program description and regulations.

Compiles manual and keeps same updated and in compliance with Administrative Code, System Policies and/or other applicable guidelines.

Distributes and trains staff and clients on Policies as appropriate.
5. Develops and maintains compliance with financial budget.
-
Submits completed, balanced budget as requested on an annual basis.

Manages services to ensure income is meeting or exceeding budget requirements and expenses are within budget requirements.
6. Acts as a liaison between program services and local agencies and groups as designated by the Supervisor and/or other management.

Provide linkage and consultation with community agencies, including DHR, VRS, Probation and Parole office and the local Court Referral Program.

Maintain positive working relationship with self-help advocacy groups, including but not limited to Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous.
7. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor to include but not limited to:
-
Serve as liaison for clients in the program with community agencies and the public. Develop a working relationship with interested groups in the community, e.g. Alcoholics Anonymous, Regional Alcoholism Council, law enforcement agencies, civic and religious groups, etc., in the care and treatment program.

Assist with ensuring the program remains within budget parameters.

Provide transportation, when necessary, performing vehicle maintenance and completing documentation as required. Maintain active Driver's License as required.

Performs duties independently and/or with minimal supervision.

Treat others with respect and courtesy at all times.

Ensure necessary documentation is completed in a timely manner with minimal errors and in compliance with applicable guidelines and policies.

Receive and respond to inquiries promptly and courteously.

Meet with supervisor as established.

Follow guidelines of SpectraCare Personnel Policy, SpectraCare Clinical Policy, including but not limited to the Alabama Administrative Code, CMS, and all other applicable regulating and contractual entities.

Takes part in administrative meetings and/or continuing in-service training which includes First Aid, CPR, MCS. diagnostics, client assessment and behavior modification techniques, review current literature and participate in activities to promote professional development.

Ensure any necessary documentation is completed and up to date before annual leave or personal leave is taken.

Adhere to Dress Code as set forth in the SpectraCare policies and procedures.

Respond to emergency and/or crisis situations as they arise.

Functions and performs well in stressful environments and manages work related stress to ensure the safety of others.

Prepares for and assists in the inspection and responds to the recommendations resulting from periodic facility and program site reviews conducted by the Department of Mental Health and/or other regulatory agencies.

8. Regular attendance with timely arrival and departure according to scheduled hours.

Must be able to work full time with rotating assignments as necessary to include but not limited to overtime hours, nights and/or weekends as scheduled.

To ensure client/staff safety while on duty, must remain awake during scheduled working hours.
9. Fulfill duties of Nurse Delegation Program:
-
Become fully certified as a Medication Administration Certified (MAC) provider.
-
Follow all regulations as outlined in the MAC policies including but not limited to the Seven (7) Rights and Responsibilities, training, consultation with RN/LPN, error reporting.
-
Comply with all documentation requirements of the MAC program including the MARs, counting and recording controlled substances, PRN medications, sign out sheets for home visits, and medication errors reporting sheets.

Ability to travel within five-county catchment area, as well as statewide and nationally as required by the system. Must have and maintain a current valid driver's license.
ESSENTIAL TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:
-
Complete initial new hire training.
-
Complete required on the job training (OJT) training by the department.
-
Obtain proper certifications needed to perform job duties.
-
Complete training as required by SpectraCare Policy & Procedures, the Alabama Administrative Code, CMS, and all other applicable regulating and contractual entities.

Complete First Aid/CPR upon hire and prior to working alone with clients; and continuously thereafter maintaining current certification.
WORK ENVIRONNMENT / PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
-
Physical ability to work assigned shift. May require periodic weekend/evening work to meet the organizations' needs.
-
Work location is primarily in a temperature controlled office with extended periods of computer use at a desk with associated repetitive motions. Must understand and practice good ergonomic movements to avoid injuries.
-
Must be able to travel to system facilities with exposure to changing weather conditions.
-
Job requires occasional use of office equipment and ability to correctly lift up to twenty (20) pounds on an infrequent basis.
-
Job requires occasional and limited bending, twisting, kneeling and reaching.
-
Required to talk to or hear staff, clients, and/or others.
-
Physical ability to perform CPR.
-
Employee may be exposed to one or more of the following: disagreeable odors, chemicals such as disinfectants, cleansers, soaps, etc; latex, plastic and other materials used for personal protective equipment; noise and distractions; unpleasant sights; unpredictable behaviors; contagious diseases; and/or wet floors.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

Master's degree or above from an accredited college or university in psychology, social work, counseling, psychiatric nursing, or other behavioral health area with requisite course work equivalent to that of a degree in counseling, psychology, social work, or psychiatric nursing, and,
-
Has successfully completed a clinical practicum, and/or
-
Holds a substance use counselor certification credential from the Alabama Association of Addiction Counselors, National Association of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors, Alabama Alcohol and Drug Association, or International Certification and Reciprocity Consortium/Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse, Inc.

Willing to obtain a substance use counselor certification credential within 30 months of hire if employee does not have one.

Minimum of two years clinical experience in substance use required.

Possess a valid Driver License.
-
Good MVR acceptable to automobile insurance carrier for inclusion on agency policy.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
-
Licensure in the State of Alabama as a Professional Counselor, Psychiatric Clinical Nurse Specialist, Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, Marriage and Family Therapist, Clinical Psychologist, Physician's Assistant, or Physician

Minimum of five years postmaster clinical experience preferred.

Two years management/supervisory experience preferred.
