Position Title: Sr Electrical Designer
Location Information Remote
Position Responsibilities:
As a Sr Electrical Designer, you will play a critical role in designing and developing electrical systems across a range of projects. You will be responsible for the application of national and local codes and delivering detailed designs for duct banks, embedded conduits, cable trays, grounding, and lighting systems. Your work will involve projects from concept through completion, using engineering documents, sketches, and vendor data to ensure quality and accuracy.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design electrical systems (including duct banks, conduit layouts, cable trays, grounding, and lighting) utilizing drawings, engineering documents, and vendor data.
- Utilize national and local engineering codes to ensure compliance in all designs.
- Develop and maintain 3D models for systems using drawings, sketches, and design expertise.
- Perform cable routing in 3D environments, develop cable schedules, and model components based on vendor submittals and design specifications.
- Conduct calculations for conduit fill, cable tray sizing, and pull box sizing based on NEC requirements.
- Analyze and verify voltage separation requirements and gather all information needed to develop robust designs.
- Create detailed plan drawings and technical deliverables for project documentation.
- Review and analyze designs for consistency, safety, operability, and maintainability to ensure adherence to quality standards and procedures.
- Coordinate within project teams using tools such as project databases, request for review processes, hold lists, and requests for information across disciplines.
- Report project updates and issues to project leads and provide regular progress documentation.
- Resolve comments and feedback on checked drawings, demonstrating a clear understanding and application of reviewer input.
- Support construction teams on-site as a resource for resolving field installation or design issues, ensuring the successful execution of projects.
- Complete various tasks to support the overall development and delivery of projects as needed.
Essential Skills, Experience
- Minimum of 15 years of experience in design and/or drafting disciplines, with a strong focus on electrical design.
- Proficiency with 3D design and modeling software tools such as MicroStation, AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks, or SP3D.
- Extensive knowledge of current computer operating systems and the ability to effectively utilize them within engineering and design applications.
- Experience performing electrical calculations, particularly with NEC requirements for conduit fill, cable tray, and pull box sizing.
- Ability to conceptualize and develop work in a 3D modeling environment, visualizing and solving complex design challenges.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to facilitate effective collaboration with multi-discipline teams and stakeholders.
- Proven ability to work independently, demonstrating initiative and effective problem-solving while also being adaptable to changing team and organizational needs.
- Demonstrated capability to work within a collaborative, fast-paced, and evolving project environment.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, engineering technology, or equivalent experience preferred.
- Strong portfolio or track record detailing relevant project experience in electrical system design.
- Relevant certifications or professional training in electrical design or drafting tools are considered a plus.
