Full Job Description

Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Director, the employeeprovides tutorial services to SSS and/or UB participants. Peer tutors work on an individual basis or in a small group sessions to answer questions on course content and to provide study strategies as a supplement to instruction.

SALARY: $15.00 per hour, not to exceed 19 hours per week.

Part-time positions are posted based on the possible availability of a future assignment which are sporadic and may not occur. Available positions are contingent upon enrollment and instructional needs of the College.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: Student Services. Tutorial Supports the TRIO Program by assisting participants in their academic studies.

Provide individualized content and skill-development tutoring to assigned students.

Facilitate learning as a guide and coach to assist the student to become a successful, independent learner.

Works directly with project participants to provide academic assistance.

Coordinates tutorial schedules.

Relates pertinent information to TRiO staff to fill gaps in assessing academic progress.

Assists with planning and implementing workshops and other program activities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: Reporting. Assess participants’ academic performance.

Inputs data in the TRiOdatabase including data relating to participation, contacts, grades, workshops, etc. for reporting purposes to U.S. Department of Education.

Consults with TRiO staff regarding progress of project participants.

Operates computer, using specialized software and various office equipment.

Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: College Expectations. Dependability, attendance, punctuality, and a commitment to do the job right are essential at all times.

Reports to work on time, at appropriate workstation or department during all departmental/position scheduled work days and during all departmental/position scheduled work hours.
Understands that failure to report for work and/or reporting late without prior approval are unacceptable practices and will result in disciplinary action.
Performs a productive full day's work.
Ensures that service to students and the general public is top priority.
Demonstrates a considerate, friendly, respectful and constructive attitude toward fellow employees and students.
Adheres to all College and System policies and procedures.

Qualifications

Completion with a grade of a B or higher (in the course of tutor) is required.
Minimum of and maintenance of a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher is required.

Available positions are contingent upon enrollment and the instructional needs of the College.

Applicants must travel at their own expense for interviews that are conducted in person.

Transcripts may be unofficial for the application process but they must identify the applicant, institution, specific course work and cumulative GPA. (A copy of the diploma will not suffice). NOTE: If employed, official transcripts will be required at that time.
