About the Role:

The Dialysis RN PRN plays a critical role in delivering high-quality nursing care to patients undergoing dialysis treatment. This position involves assessing patient conditions, administering prescribed dialysis therapies, and monitoring patients for any adverse reactions or complications throughout the procedure. The nurse collaborates closely with nephrologists, technicians, and other healthcare professionals to ensure individualized care plans are effectively implemented. Additionally, the role requires maintaining accurate and detailed patient records, educating patients and their families about dialysis care, and adhering to all safety and regulatory standards. Ultimately, the Dialysis RN PRN contributes to improving patient outcomes and quality of life by providing compassionate and skilled nursing care in a flexible, as-needed capacity.

Minimum Qualifications:

Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the United States.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Prior experience in dialysis nursing or a related clinical setting.
Strong knowledge of dialysis procedures, equipment, and patient care standards.
Ability to work flexible hours on an as-needed (PRN) basis.

Preferred Qualifications:

Certification in Nephrology Nursing (CNN) or Certified Dialysis Nurse (CDN).
Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems specific to dialysis centers.
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
Familiarity with quality improvement initiatives and regulatory compliance in dialysis care.
Demonstrated skills in patient education and counseling related to chronic kidney disease management.

Responsibilities:

Perform comprehensive patient assessments before, during, and after dialysis treatments to monitor vital signs and overall condition.
Administer dialysis treatments according to established protocols and physician orders, ensuring patient safety and comfort.
Identify and respond promptly to any complications or emergencies during dialysis sessions, including managing vascular access and fluid balance.
Document all aspects of patient care accurately in electronic health records, including treatment details, patient responses, and any interventions.
Educate patients and their families on dialysis procedures, dietary restrictions, medication management, and lifestyle modifications to support treatment efficacy.
Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to develop and update individualized care plans based on patient progress and clinical findings.
Maintain compliance with infection control policies, safety regulations, and quality assurance standards specific to dialysis care.

Skills:

The Dialysis RN PRN utilizes clinical nursing skills daily to assess patient health status and administer dialysis treatments safely and effectively. Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities are essential for recognizing and managing complications during procedures. Communication skills are employed to educate patients and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, ensuring coordinated and comprehensive care. Proficiency with electronic health records supports accurate documentation and facilitates information sharing among healthcare providers. Additionally, adherence to infection control and safety protocols requires attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining a safe treatment environment.
