On-Site Hotel General Manager – Housing Provided
Location: Douglas, Wyoming
Job Type: Full-Time / On-Site Management
Property Size: Approximately 35 rooms
Housing: On-site living provided
We are looking for an experienced, hands-on Hotel General Manager to live on-site and take full responsibility for the operation of a small hotel property in Douglas, Wyoming.
The property is approximately 35 rooms, so this position is different from a traditional hotel General Manager role with multiple department managers and full front-desk coverage.
We are looking for someone who is comfortable living at the property, taking ownership of the entire operation, and being available for the hotel 24/7 when necessary.
How the Position Is Structured
Because this is a smaller hotel, the General Manager will be responsible for the overall operation of the property while also having limited front-desk staffing available.
Summer Staffing
During the busier summer season:
- We will provide approximately 40 hours per week of front-desk staffing
- The manager will determine how and when those 40 hours are best utilized based on occupancy, check-ins, workload, and operational needs
- Ownership will not dictate exactly which hours the front-desk employee must work
- Outside of those staffed hours, the General Manager is responsible for ensuring the front desk and property remain properly covered
Winter Staffing
During the slower winter season:
- We will provide approximately 20 hours per week of front-desk staffing
- The manager will determine how those 20 hours are best scheduled
- Outside of those hours, the General Manager will be responsible for front-desk coverage and the overall hotel operation
The manager should not assume that additional front-desk staffing will be provided beyond these scheduled hours.
The purpose of this structure is to give the manager flexibility to operate the property efficiently. We are not looking to micromanage when the provided front-desk hours are used. We expect the manager to determine the most effective schedule based on the needs of the hotel.
On-Site & 24/7 Responsibility
Because the manager will live on the property, this position requires someone who understands that hotel operations do not always fit into a traditional 9-to-5 schedule.
The General Manager will be responsible for ensuring the property is properly operated 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
This does not mean the manager must physically stand at the front desk 24 hours per day. It means the manager takes responsibility for making sure:
- Guests can check in and receive assistance
- After-hours issues are handled
- Emergencies are addressed
- Staff members show up and perform their duties
- Rooms are ready for guests
- Maintenance problems are addressed
- The property remains safe and operational
- Problems are not left for ownership to discover or resolve
We are looking for someone who views the hotel as their property to operate, rather than simply working a fixed shift.
