Full Job Description

General Description of the Position

The Postdoctoral Research Associate/Fellow conducts advanced research in support of sponsored research projects involving molecular plant virology, molecular biology, bioinformatics, bioimaging, and genomics, with an emphasis on the bioinformatics analysis of small RNA transcriptomes, and RNA molecular quantification. Working under the direction of the Principal Investigator (PI), the incumbent is responsible for designing and conducting research experiments, analyzing and interpreting data, preparing reports and scholarly publications, presenting research findings, and student training. The position also supports the overall research objectives of the University by maintaining high standards of scientific integrity, collaboration, and compliance with institutional and sponsor requirements.

Essential Functions
The following duties are representative of the responsibilities assigned to this position and are not intended to be an all-inclusive list:

Assists in the design, implementation, and evaluation of research experiments and protocols.
Conducts laboratory and computational research related to molecular biology, molecular plant virology, bioinformatics, and genomics.
Collects, analyzes, interprets, and presents research data using appropriate statistical and analytical methods.
Maintains accurate and complete research records in accordance with University and funding agency requirements.
Prepares technical reports, progress reports, and final project reports.
Assists with the preparation and submission of manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
Presents research findings at scientific meetings, seminars, and professional conferences.
Collaborates effectively with the Principal Investigator, faculty, and other research personnel to achieve project objectives.
Ensures compliance with laboratory safety procedures, University policies, and sponsor regulations.
Performs other research-related duties as assigned
Train both graduate and undergraduate students.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Qualification Standards

Minimum Qualifications

Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Plant Biology, Bioinformatics, Genomics, Plant Pathology, Virology, or a closely related scientific discipline.
Demonstrated doctoral-level research experience in one or more of the following areas:
- RNA interference (RNAi)
- Bioinformatics, including the analysis of small RNA transcriptomes
- Molecular plant virology
- Molecular biology
Experience with confocal microscopy.
Experience performing Western blot analysis.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with bioinformatics analyses of small RNA transcriptomes.
Experience with next-generation sequencing (NGS) technologies and associated data analysis.
Record of scholarly publications in peer-reviewed journals.

Experience mentoring undergraduate or graduate student researchers.
