This posting is for an Extension Educator (1, 2, or 3); salary and Educator level for final candidate will be determined by years of experience and education level:

Extension Educator 1
Requires a bachelor’s Degree
Salary Range: $42,100 – $55,000

Extension Educator 2
Requires a master’s Degree
Salary Range: $47,700 – $62,300

Extension Educator 3
Requires a master’s Degree and 11+ years of direct or related work experience
Salary Range: $55,700 – $72,700

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: This position is located in Tuscarawas County, New Philadelphia, Ohio.

Providing guidance and/or leadership for Agriculture and Natural Resources programming targeted to local and area needs. Utilize appropriate methods, both formal and informal, of community assessment to identify educational needs and opportunities of local community. Design, implement and teach educational programming, based on these needs, to groups and individuals comprised of adults and/or youth. May also convene and facilitate community coalitions focused on those needs. The Educator may be required to replicate and adhere to existing programs that meet the needs of their local community. The Educator will develop promotional material, work with and/or lead committees and volunteers, and establish and maintain partnerships within the community that support the achievement of the program goals. Establish methods of effective communication with clientele using newsletter, county blog, Facebook, and/or combination of methods. Maintain a high level of visibility with a wide range of clientele to promote the understanding of agriculture and natural resource issues. The Educator evaluates educational programs and dissemination methods, as well as, utilizes existing evaluation instruments to evaluate the teaching effectiveness, program quality and results of local programs. Participate in discussions with county representatives concerning program funding and the county budget. May also be responsible for securing external funds to support local programming. Participate as a member of county, multi-county, and/or state Extension teams to further the overall mission, vision and values of both Ohio State University Extension and Agriculture and Natural Resources.

Plan, teach, deliver, disseminate, and evaluate educational programs and applied research on relevant local issues such as agronomic crops, farm management, home and commercial horticulture, integrated pest management, water quality, food safety, natural resources, rural economic development, biotechnology, agricultural profitability, and alternative agricultural commodities. Give direction and/or leadership to the development of pro-active educational programs using innovative educational methods; Maintain a high level of visibility and facilitate communications with a wide range of clientele including traditional and non-traditional learners, elected officials, agricultural and non-agricultural stakeholders, and environmental and special interest groups to promote the understanding of agriculture and natural resource issues; Ensure a diversity among potential clientele and learners and equal access to programs and facilities without regard to age, race, creed, color, handicap, sex, sexual orientation, developmental disability, national origin, marital status, arrest or non-program related conviction record.
Develop and work closely with local advisory committee(s), agriculture and natural resources agencies/groups, local educational institutions, county commissioners, and community forums to assess needs and assist in the development and evaluation of Extension programs. Effectively utilize various teaching methods to assist the community in implementing a balanced development approach.
Maintain a program of individual professional improvement in selected subject areas; Be an effective team player. Work collaboratively with Extension educators in all program areas, (FCS, ANR, 4H, CD) to foster a culture of interdisciplinary work that is needed to impact broad issues or carry out major programming efforts.
Use of media in outreach of new and existing audiences. Develops promotional and educational materials including but not limited to newspaper, radio, trade papers, and social media on a regular basis. Participates in community functions to promote programs and provide public relations to county.
Provide a minimum of 10% statewide specialization in a specialization appropriate area (to
be selected) to the area, and state Extension professionals.

QUALIFICATIONS: An earned bachelor’s or master’s degree at the time of hire is required. Preference will be given to candidates with a degree in Agriculture or other educationally related area (examples are: natural resources, animal sciences, environmental sciences, or horticulture).

Must be able to utilize a variety of teaching methods to deliver program content to diverse groups of learners. Entry level knowledge and/or the ability to learn concepts, processes, ideas, and methods of specific program area. Experience effectively assessing, replicating and teaching research-based educational programs to diverse audiences. Experience in building and maintaining relationships with various groups of individuals, including peers, support staff, volunteers, and local committees, in an effort to achieve common programming goals.

Training and work experience related to soil science, agronomy, livestock production, farm management, and natural resources. Experience relating to community engagement. Experience working with volunteers, advisory committees, and related boards.

Final candidates are subject to successful completion of a background check. A drug screen, physical, or psychological screening may be required during the post offer process.
