Position: Patient Access Manager

Medmonk is seeking an experienced, highly motivated, and service-oriented Patient Access Manager to lead our team of Patient Access Advocates. This is a full-time, onsite position in our Itasca, IL office and is available for immediate hire.

The ideal candidate is an experienced people manager with a strong background in specialty pharmacy, reimbursement, prior authorizations, benefit investigations, and patient access services. Candidates must have previous experience directly managing employees with direct reports. We are seeking a manager who has successfully hired, coached, developed, and held employees accountable while driving operational excellence and delivering exceptional customer service.

This is a working manager position. In addition to leading and developing the team, the Patient Access Manager is expected to actively assist with the team's daily workload. The manager will work alongside the team to help manage case volume, resolve complex reimbursement issues, support benefit investigations and prior authorizations, and ensure service levels are consistently met. The ideal candidate leads by example, is willing to step in wherever needed, and thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Experience Required

5+ years of experience in one or more of the following areas:

Specialty pharmacy or home infusion reimbursement
Pharmacy and medical benefit billing
Prior authorizations for specialty or home infusion therapies
Benefit investigations and insurance verification
Manufacturer copay assistance programs
Physician office billing and reimbursement
Customer service supporting patients, providers, or pharmacies

In addition:

Minimum of 3 years of direct people management experience with employees reporting directly to you.
Experience hiring, onboarding, coaching, mentoring, and developing employees.
Experience conducting one-on-one meetings, performance evaluations, and managing employee performance, including corrective action when necessary.
Experience monitoring productivity, quality, and customer service metrics while holding employees accountable for achieving performance goals.
Strong knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurance plans.
Experience handling complex customer service escalations.
Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business, or a related field preferred.

Job Responsibilities

Directly manage, coach, mentor, and develop a team of Patient Access Advocates.
Conduct regular one-on-one meetings, performance evaluations, coaching sessions, and employee development discussions.
Interview, hire, onboard, and develop new team members.
Manage employee performance, attendance, and conduct, providing coaching and corrective action when appropriate.
Foster a positive, collaborative, and accountable team culture focused on continuous improvement and exceptional customer service.
Monitor individual and team productivity, quality, and customer service metrics, holding team members accountable for meeting established goals.
Review calls, emails, and case documentation to ensure accuracy, quality, and adherence to company standards.
Actively assist with the team's daily workload, including benefit investigations, prior authorizations, claims support, patient and provider communications, and case management to ensure service level expectations are consistently met.
Serve as the primary escalation point for complex reimbursement, billing, eligibility, and customer service issues.
Support the team by resolving challenging patient, provider, pharmacy, and manufacturer inquiries.
Monitor team workloads and proactively redistribute work during periods of high volume to maintain operational efficiency.
Ensure timely processing of benefit investigations, prior authorizations, copay assistance requests, claims, and customer inquiries.
Identify operational challenges and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, quality, and customer satisfaction.
Develop, maintain, and improve standard operating procedures, workflows, and training materials.
Generate operational, productivity, quality, and customer service reports for leadership.
Partner closely with the Director of Customer Support to achieve departmental goals, improve processes, develop employees, and support strategic initiatives.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless patient support and operational excellence.
Ensure compliance with HIPAA, client requirements, company policies, and all applicable regulations.
Perform other duties as assigned.
