We are excited to recruit an experienced Tax Director for a reputable CPA firm in Los Angeles. This role is perfect for individuals who excel in tax technicalities and leadership but seek a more sustainable alternative to the traditional public accounting routine.

As a Tax Director, you will serve as a pivotal technical tax resource while leading and nurturing a team. The right candidate will possess strong technical skills, organizational prowess, interpersonal finesse, and the ability to take ownership of tasks from preparation to final review.

Your Responsibilities

Complete final review of individual and business tax returns
Engage in the preparation of complex returns as required
Review tax returns for California and multiple states
Work extensively with S-Corporations, partnerships, and individual taxation
Support tax planning, estimates, and technical research
Act as a technical mentor for other tax team members
Manage task prioritization and oversee workflow completion
Coach, develop, and mentor professional staff
Collaborate with remote and offshore team members
Coordinate tax and accounting workflow efficiently
Contribute to process improvement, procedure enhancement, and team efficiency
Monitor deadlines, quality standards, and budget allocation

This role primarily entails 80% review and 20% hands-on preparation, providing a balanced mix of responsibilities. While mainly focused on review tasks, this position also involves diving into intricate returns as needed.

Your Qualifications

Minimum 5 years of progressive tax experience in public accounting
Demonstrated expertise in preparing and reviewing California tax returns for individuals and businesses
Strong background in S-Corporation, partnership, individual, and multi-state tax matters
Experience managing tax work from preparation to final review
Proven track record of people management, ideally overseeing 2–3+ employees
Skilled in coaching, development, and work prioritization for a team
Active CPA certification preferred; experienced EA candidates also considered
Sound knowledge of financial statements and accounting principles
Familiarity with QuickBooks Online
Experience with UltraTax software is advantageous
Beneficial experience working with remote or offshore professionals
Excellent communication skills and high emotional intelligence
Stable work history and collaborative leadership approach

Work Schedule

This fully remote position in the U.S. emphasizes the importance of working hours. Candidates must be available primarily between 9:00 AM–5:00 PM Pacific Time, with flexibility for international team coordination.
