Full Job Description

This position is responsible for efficiently overseeing the daily operations of the pharmacy, specializing in compounding. Ensuring the pharmacy is following all federal and state compliance laws; making sure all pharmacists are properly trained to verify all new verbal, written and electronic prescriptions, counsel patients, clinics, and pharmacy technicians to ensure cleanliness and accuracy of all medications.

Key Responsibilities:

Counsel patients and owners on all new prescriptions and answer any questions courteously and professionally.
Counsel Veterinarians about appropriate doses and dosage forms upon request.
Verify all new prescription
Check all finished prescriptions to ensure the correct medication, strength, dosage form, quantity and expiration date to ensure accuracy.
Verify that the sterility procedures are implemented and strictly followed by compounding technicians.
Verify all medication weights and volumes during compounding process to ensure accuracy and quality of product.
Encourage technicians and when possible the Pharmacists to work efficiently as possible
Evaluate technicians technique, speed, and efficiency of their compounding process and ensure they are tested as required by 797
Proactively identify any chemicals or supplies that need to be ordered
Maintain current state pharmacist licensure and complete required continuing education requirements during entire period of employment.
Assist with other activities as requested to ensure continuous operational efficiencies throughout the company.
Make efficient use of down time by helping in other areas such as labeling, assisting compounding, etc.
Assist in managing the maintenance and cleanliness of the pharmacy

Working conditions:

Work as needed (PRN); minimal Saturdays, no Sundays
Scheduled days and times may vary dependent upon the workload and need
½ hour (30 minutes) un-paid lunch is provided and (1) 10 minute paid break, for every 4 hours worked
The pharmacist is exposed to chemicals and medications on a daily basis
Overtime is not permitted unless approved by owner.
Dress code is casual but professional
In the instance that an employee becomes pregnant while working in compounding they need to notify their immediate supervisor immediately so any special measures necessary can be taken.

Employment Requirements:

Must possess and maintain a valid state pharmacist license during entire period of employment
Solid math aptitude to ensure all calculations are done accurately
Punctual, meticulous and reliable
Ability to constantly prioritize the work load to ensure that we continue to meet our customers’ expectations on product quality and turnaround time
Courteous manners with the public
Must be available to work Saturdays
Must pass a drug test upon hiring as well as agree to random drug testing throughout employment
Must consent to and pass a pre-employment background check
Keen attention to detail to ensure the correct products and amounts are used in each prescription

Willingness and ability to learn the techniques in other areas of specialization as time permits and need arises.
