Full Job Description

Are you ready for more autonomy and responsibility? Want to grow your management and people-leadership skills without giving up the client interaction you're great at?

We're looking for someone who can be part of our Client Service team and own the day-to-day people-management side of our practice.

We don't micromanage. We expect competent people to do their jobs. But every good team needs someone willing to take the lead when something isn't working.

Someone called out for the fourth time this month. Three people want the same Friday off. A staff member needs more training. Someone has been given the same instruction six times, and we're starting to suspect a seventh explanation isn't the answer.

We need you to notice it, address it, and follow through.

The People Side

You'll work closely with the practice owner and our technical team leads to:

Identify training and retraining needs and ensure follow-through
Address attendance, reliability, performance, and communication concerns
Manage routine vacation and time-off conflicts
Give employees clear feedback and expectations
Create and manage Performance Improvement Plans
Document concerns and follow up on improvement
Handle routine employee questions and concerns
Help ensure policies are applied fairly and consistently
Help with hiring, interviews, selection, and onboarding

You'll own the people-management process, while collaborating with the people who work alongside the team every day.

Serious disciplinary issues and terminations are handled with the practice owner. Some conversations deserve backup.

The Client Service Side

You'll also be part of our reception team—welcoming clients and pets, answering phones, scheduling appointments, checking clients in and out, processing payments, handling records and prescription requests, and keeping a busy front desk organized.

If Bella is coming in at 10:00, we want you to greet Bella by name. Her name is right there on the schedule.

You Might Be Our Unicorn If You:

Have previous supervisory, management, HR, or employee-relations experience
Have experience managing multiple employees
Want autonomy and are comfortable making decisions
Know the difference between leading and micromanaging
Are comfortable having respectful but direct conversations
Can distinguish between someone who needs training and someone who needs accountability
Follow up instead of assuming one conversation magically fixed everything
Are organized, fair, consistent, and trustworthy
Have excellent attention to detail
Have a sense of humor

Veterinary experience is not required. We can teach you veterinary terminology. We need you to bring the people-management skills.

Schedule

Full-time | 4.5-day workweek

Weekdays: 7:55 AM–5:00 PM, with a 1-hour lunch
1 Saturday/month: 7:55 AM–12:00 PM
Two designanted blocks/week primarily dedicated to people-management work

People have stubbornly refused to schedule all of their management needs for Tuesday afternoon, so the people side happens throughout the week. The dedicated time makes sure the important follow-through actually gets done.
