Join Resource Renew as a Full-Time IT Specialist 1 and immerse yourself in a role that champions the operation, maintenance, and support of the District's Management Information System (MIS). This onsite role located in Duluth, Minnesota will provide essential technical support for staff and daily operations. Under general guidance, you will independently provide first-level support to end users, troubleshoot hardware and software issues, maintain system reliability and help build a resilient, secure IT environment for the District that directly serves our community.

Resource Renew, the brand of Western Lake Superior Sanitary District (WLSSD), is committed to preventing pollution and protecting the environment, including the region's most precious resource - Lake Superior. Founded as a special purpose unit of government created by the Minnesota Legislature in 1971 to address serious environmental pollution problems in the lower St. Louis River Basin, Resource Renew provides wastewater and solid waste services and oversight for a 530 square mile region around Duluth, Minnesota. Our facilities include a main wastewater treatment plant, multiple pump stations, and solid waste collection sites of varied types.
WHAT DOES AN IT SPECIALIST 1 DO?

Maintains the District's MIS with an emphasis on computers and printers, and ensures the system is kept up to date as new technology is implemented, personal profiles are added and system processes are adjusted

Troubleshoots and provides solutions for a variety of common computer related issues

Installs, supports, and updates desktop software applications

Analyzes existing technologies, practices and procedures to identity opportunities for improving the performance, security and reliability of the District's

Utilizes an enterprise asset management system (EAM) to track assets and maintain records

Ensures work performed adheres to strict security standards such as National Institute of Standard and Technology (NIST) and Payment Card Industry (PCI) compliance
-
Maintains a constant awareness of safe work practices; monitors compliance with District safety program to complete work with accidents or injuries

Represents the District in transactions with vendors and contactors
A TYPICAL SKILLSET FOR THE ROLE IS:

Knowledge of personal computers, workstations and operating systems

Knowledge of Local Area Networks (LAN), Wide Area Networks (WAN) and Voice Over IP (VOIP) systems

Knowledge of basic input/output hardware interfaces such as printers and other computer peripherals

Knowledge of Microsoft desktop and cloud platforms and their administration

Knowledge of foundational Information Assurance principles

Ability to complete responsibilities ethically and maintain confidentiality with sensitive information

Ability to maintain compliance with various contracts, policies, regulations and procedures

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and effectively prioritize multiple tasks while meeting deadlines

Ability to independently research, learn and develop skills related to new and emerging technologies and concepts
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
- Possess a post-secondary degree in information systems, network administration, computer science or related field

Minimum of two years' relevant experience

An equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered

SELECTION PROCESS & TESTING INFORMATION
Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications. Those who meet the minimum qualifications will be given an examination, which may consist of a written exam, a presentation, a hands-on test or an oral exam. Final selection will include a panel interview. Passing the examinations and interviews will require a score of 70% or higher.
