Senior Tax Manager

Position Type: Direct Hire
Salary: Up to $150,000 per year
Schedule: Hybrid option available for the Atlanta (30339) office.
(Located near The Battery).
Industry: Public Accounting / CPA Firm
Busy Season: January through April 15, plus September 15 and October 15 deadlines
Busy Season Hours: Approximately 55 hours per week
Non-Busy Season Hours: Approximately 40 hours per week
Start Date: ASAP

About the Opportunity

Our client, a well-established CPA firm in the Atlanta (30339) area, is seeking a Senior Tax Manager to join their growing tax practice.

This is a direct-hire opportunity with a firm that values strong client relationships, technical expertise, and a supportive team environment. The ideal candidate will bring deep public accounting experience, strong leadership skills, and the ability to manage complex tax engagements while mentoring staff and strengthening client relationships.

The firm offers a professional but family-oriented culture, flexibility where possible, and the opportunity to work with a strong client base across industries such as construction, service providers, real estate, professional services, and closely held businesses.

Key Responsibilities

Manage and review complex tax engagements for individuals, partnerships, corporations, trusts, estates, and high-net-worth clients
Provide tax planning and consulting strategies for business owners and high-net-worth individuals
Review business tax returns, including C corporations, S corporations, partnerships, consolidated returns, and multi-state filings
Serve as a trusted advisor to clients by identifying tax-saving opportunities and helping resolve technical tax matters
Manage multiple client engagements while ensuring deadlines, budgets, and quality standards are met
Review work prepared by staff and senior accountants to ensure accuracy and compliance with firm quality control procedures
Supervise, train, and mentor tax staff and seniors
Complete performance reviews and provide constructive feedback to team members
Communicate engagement status, technical issues, scheduling concerns, and recommended solutions to partners
Maintain strong client relationships through responsive communication and technical guidance
Stay current on tax law changes, regulatory updates, and industry-specific tax matters
Participate in networking and business development activities
Support firm leadership with process improvement, policies, procedures, and team development
Assist with additional projects and responsibilities as needed

Qualifications

Active CPA license required
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required
Master’s degree in Taxation preferred
8+ years of current public accounting tax experience required
3+ years of experience supervising, training, and reviewing the work of tax staff and senior accountants
Current or recent experience with a mid-sized public accounting firm strongly preferred
Strong business tax experience, including C corporations, S corporations, partnerships, and closely held businesses
Experience with high-net-worth individual taxation and tax planning
Experience managing complex tax engagements from start to finish
Multi-state tax experience required
Experience with consolidated tax returns preferred
Strong technical review skills, including the ability to identify issues, research solutions, and communicate recommendations
Comfortable serving as the primary client contact on assigned engagements
Ability to manage deadlines, budgets, staffing, and client expectations during busy season
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple client engagements at one time
Proven ability to mentor and develop staff
Stable work history preferred

Senior-Level Expectations

This is a senior-level tax leadership role, not a preparation-focused position. The ideal candidate will be able to manage complex client relationships, review advanced tax work, advise clients on planning strategies, and serve as a key resource for staff, seniors, and managers.

The right person should be comfortable working directly with partners, identifying tax planning opportunities, managing multiple deadlines, and helping develop the next level of talent within the firm.

Preferred Background

Experience working with construction, service provider, real estate, professional services, or closely held business clients
Prior experience in a mid-sized CPA firm environment
Experience managing a small team of 3 to 4 people
Strong high-net-worth tax planning experience
Strong C corporation, S corporation, and partnership tax experience
Long-term career mindset with interest in leadership growth
